Minor league contract. Apparently he couldn't find a major league deal, the Phillies are a curious choice; they have the best outfield in baseball and plenty of depth.

Do we take his body outline of the CF wall now ?

Trade Jenks/Linebrink cash for some good prospects.. sign andruw jones ; sign Xavier Nady 3 year, 24 million; sign Alex Cora for defense (Omar Vizquel) Thome 1 year 4 million; 1 year/1 mil; Chad Cordero 1 year/500k; Dotel 1 year 5 million... DO NOT TRADE ANY PROSPECTS UNLESS ITS PROSPECT FOR PROSPECT.

Change Rio's approach at plate and make him leadoff because he has good speed.. try to get xavier nady and if you can bring back thome.. if not I would get vlad/pods instead but would rather have thome/nady. I think we would have a solid bench, a team the fans would like, very competitive, overall good team. Bullpen would be the only thing that may need work though.

He may very well turn out to be an asset. I'm betting (figuratively speaking) that he'll still be an ass. We will see.

There's probably a greater-than-50% chance that you're right. Still, I think he's worth a $500k gamble.

Sadly, with our current line up, he could be a late inning defensive sub.

We only have 1 corner outfielder right now and our CF is an elite defender, little early for this kind of thinking. I'd also say the Vizquel signing improved our team defense quite a bit.

what's sad about this?

I'm underwhelmed by his defense at this stage in his career, at least as a defensive stud. I'm in a Junior kind of mood about this. It's kind of a middling signing. The guy we think of is not the guy that would be signing this contract. Although, it probably says the Sox are the best team he could sign with, because he isn't playing for the money.
