southsideirish71
Hard not to like this. Low risk, high reward. Good right handed pop off of the bench. And while he is not the same guy as he was before, he can still probably provide decent LF and RF defense at times. As long as he is not over exposed he will be an asset. klaus kinski
Good move-didnt spend $ that could still be used for the bullpen. I just thought he was older than 32 Does this kill any Thome talk?
chw42
LOL Jones' agent is Boras. DUN DUN DUN!
southsider2k5
If this is viewed as a bench signing, I wonder who the last OF target really is. It is a great gamble here. At worst he costs us basically the same thing that a call up from the minors does. At best, he is great.
Kalapse
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) If this is viewed as a bench signing, I wonder who the last OF target really is. BigSqwert
I just hate giving Ozzie another opportunity to play a guy way more than he deserves to be out there. Think Mackowiak, Pods, and Wise in CF.
scenario
From Bruce Levine's story on the ESPN Chicago website... "According to White Sox sources, Jones is not being considered as a starting outfielder at this point."

southsider2k5
Really we are a lead off hitter and some bullpen work away from the off season being over, that is unless Kenny can make a splash. Even the pen might be something that comes back pretty close to the same, when you look at how volatile pens can be, it might be worth a gamble to stand pretty close to pat. I know we will look for a bargain or two out there, but nothing to set the world on fire.
shipps
I am now soooooooo interested who is gonna be starting LF. Football has lost my attention now I can focus on more important things like LF and boobies.
Whitewashed in '05
QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) From Bruce Levine's story on the ESPN Chicago website... "According to White Sox sources, Jones is not being considered as a starting outfielder at this point." That's good... I would feel better if it would've said "according to Ozzie Guillen" though. I just thought he was older than 32 Does this kill any Thome talk? I think there is still a legitimate discussion for Thome coming back, especially if Jones can play any OF at this point. Hell he can't be worse than what we have been running out there on a regular basis.

hogan873
Very low risk and a potential big reward especially since it's considered a bench signing. Sure it's another guy that KW wanted years ago, but like with Omar he adds a lot of depth. I like it.
knightni
Jones could play LF if he lost 15 pounds.

Melissa1334
QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) No need for Coco Crisp now I would think. You would figure De Aza could be the speedy guy off the bench possibly. why not? even with signing jones,it doesnt solve the leadoff spot. jones will be utility player, not an everyday player
bschmaranz
We shoulda just signed Carl Everett instead No, really for what Jerry's paying, good move.
LittleHurt05
wow, cant believe hes only 32. He fell off so badly, I assumed he was much older. Guess it probably had more to do with roids, but at least at that age, he still has a chance to figure it all out again and contribute. Melissa1334
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Lillibridge might make the team somehow to backup CF why? if we sign crisp, for example, hed play center almost everyday and when he wouldnt, rios would and kotsay can play rf
soxfan-kwman
Now we can sign Pods to lead-off & play DH for 55-60 games LF 90-100 games & Andruw Jones in LF for about 50 games, CF & RF maybe 10 games, and then DH the rest. This can keep the Pods & the other guys fresh. With Kotsay, we got the outfield covered bench wise. I believe Pods, if we sign him will rotate DH with Paulie, AJ, CQ, Kotsay, & now Andruw Jones. We still need to have a leadoff guy!!!
BFirebird
I like it....as a bench player. This team still needs bullpen help and some more home runs. That lineup is still looking pretty weak at the present moment.
