Quin
In summation: '09 - Has potential to be very good. '08 - Slayerific with extra goodness in Huddy, D2, and Morel. '07 - Not wonderful, but Poreda helped nab Peavy. '06 - Sucked.
Rowand44
We should just always draft the way we did in 08.
harfman77
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) We should just always draft the way we did in 08. Suck the year before so we get a high pick?
ThunderBolt
I love the Laumann-Bell approach to drafting, and hope that it continues to yield solid results for years to come.

southsider2k5
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Suck the year before so we get a high pick? Pretty much. It is a lot easier to draft stars at #8, than it is in the 20's.
Ranger
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) We should just always draft the way we did in 08. You mean hope the Reds pass on somebody like Beckham? In all honesty, though, Alonso may turn out to be a pretty good player, too. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Suck the year before so we get a high pick? Sounds like a bad idea. Though being competitive at the MLB level makes it tougher to draft as well, the Sox had a poor draft philosophy up until a few years ago. They seem to be more willing to take the high-risk picks and have put the right people in the right places to oversee the process. Hopefully, the trend will continue. (By the way, I know you weren't serious.) Edited December 4, 2009 by Ranger
danman31
QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) You mean hope the Reds pass on somebody like Beckham? In all honesty, though, Alonso may turn out to be a pretty good player, too. Not to mention Justin Smoak, who was drafted after Beckham, looks like an absolute stud in the making. That draft was just stacked.
Quin
QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Not to mention Justin Smoak, who was drafted after Beckham, looks like an absolute stud in the making. That draft was just stacked. And Brett Wallace and Buster Posey. If anything, the one disappointment seems to be Tim Beckham, but he's only like what, 19? I still say we got the better Shortstop Beckham from Georgia though .

Eh, Skipworth and Hosmer seem to be bigger disappointments than Beckham

Kyle Skipworth has been the biggest bust though, so far. And I really wanted him, LOLZ.
