How can reporters get away with these types of rumors while places like SoxNet.net get slammed when they have legit inside information and reported the information professionally?

I just dont get how a baseball reporter can be given credibility for what they write when they go ahead and report this. To me, it just shows that baseball reporters have a false sense of ego and really dont know much more than the average Soxtalker.

Reporters can get away with alot when they quote named sources.

Having a named source doesn't make the info more legit... it just reduces the questions/cynicism that naturally arise when someone quotes an unnamed source.

Just to play devils advocate here as I don't really want this guy on the Sox either. But........ our manager has stated a few times over the last couple of years that he is tired of his club being thrown at. Could it possibly be that they see Padilla as not only a candidate for relief, but someone who is not afraid to throw back at someone as well. Just a thought.

What are we, a hockey team? I did not know baseball needed enforcers.

IIRC this is Harrell's last option year so they'll have to call him up at some point anyway. Ely should start in AAA. Shirek will begin in Birmingham but should be expected to get to Charlotte at some point next year, if not by midseason. And of course Torres, Hynick, and Marquez are on the 40-man as well, although who knows about Marquez's health. Carrasco's workload should be diminished with all our SP and he can spot start.

The point is, we have enough #7 starters as it is, and if we reeeeeeeeeeeally needed another one, I wouldn't expect a GM who is known for both making the clubhouse a priority as well as requesting input from his veterans and his manager, to acquire a player that neither his manager nor his veterans can stand. Rumor = bulls***.

He did take a chance on AJ. AJ is one that most people still can't stand in the clubhouse but busts his tail on the field.

however, I don't think Padilla has the upside to help the club like AJ so I don't see it happening either.

Plus AJ and Padilla hate each other.

So they blow off the Adrian Gonzalez stuff, but expect us to believe the guy who has been throwing at our players for years, to the extent that we banned to AAA a player who wouldn't retaliate back, and yet we are after him?

What f***ing idiots.

I wouldn't unequivocally say there is no way they'd express any interest in him at all. I agree that it's not likely there is great interest, but it doesn't mean there wasn't some discussion about it.

Again, personally I do not want Padilla, I am just trying to make sure that we have correct information. I know that Padilla threw at A. J. what was it 3 - 4 seasons ago now, and A. J. was looking into the Sox dugout. Was A. J. actually mad at Padilla, has he said anything, I don't recall; or was A. J. upset that his team wasn't retaliating?

It may very well be that A. J. hates Padilla ( as a lot of other players seem to), I just don't remember the specifics or if this was actually stated.

Padilla didn't just throw at AJ. I watched that game. As I recall, he threw the first pitch into AJ's back for no game-related reasons. Then Aj's next at bat, he did the same damn thing. It was blatant and way over the top.

Really? Who doesn't like - scratch that - who doesn't LOVE AJ??? I can't believe this. AJ is the f***ing man.

Unless they planned on dumping AJ, there is no way you hire a guy that you know is going to be in a fight with one of your main guys, probably on the first day.

That's kind of my point - he either can, or cannot, say he knows a lot about some given team. He's willing to post a rumor of obvious silliness like this, but mocks a rumor that was more well-supported and logical about Adrian Gonzalez. Basically, if he can find something obscure that hasn't been wide-published yet, he'll prefer that because it makes his site look better. Something that the rest of the world got first, he'll set a higher bar to be recognized. Its just him defending his turf, which is somewhat understandable, but still hypocritical.

Because SoxNet isn't sponsored by ESPN.

Speaking of ESPN, their White Sox depth chart is absolute bull****.

Edit: Man, Wise is still on there.

Did you see the original source? It's pretty f***ing funny.

1.) The information is coming from a close friend of Vicente Padilla's

as if that weren't reliable enough . . .

2.) It's being reported in a Nicaraguan newspaper

And as for the story itself; Padilla's friend says the Sox and EIGHT other teams have "shown interest." Meaning Padilla's agent calls up the club, asks if they're interested in his client, they say 'not right now but we don't want to rule anything out, perhaps we'll speak again closer to Spring Training' and BAM! they just showed interest.

In other words it means absolutely nothing.

Disagree. I get a lot of my news from Nicaraguan news feeds and I find them to be extremely reliable. In fact, if it weren't for them my family may have been attack by a chubacabra during last week's full moon. Yet here we are, safe and sound. Dismiss at your own risk.

Things tend to change when you become teammates with a guy you once disliked.

This isn't going to happen, but I'm just saying it wouldn't be entirely out of the question that they asked about him or that he was discussed. Remember, a LOT of players get discussed during this time, even ones you've never thought of.

Yeah but Padilla's shenanigans are cruel and tragic, which makes them not really shenanigans at all.

Not to mention we are talking about a guy who is in the bottom 1% of the league as it is. Plus he has a personal problem with the guy he would be working most directly with. Its not like they would even be on opposite ends of things. I still say there is zero chance of this happening, and the idea of it being thought about is about the same chance. I know lots of things get talked about, but looking at the specifics of this exactly situation tells you everything you need to know. The only way Padilla was discussed, is if everyone in the room cracked up laughing after his name got mentioned.
