Halladay to Phillies in 4 team trade

PHILADELPHIA -- Roy Halladay could be getting close to joining the Phillies.

complete hot stove coverage

A source said Monday that Halladay is in Philadelphia, likely to take a physical and talk about a contract extension. The Phillies are trying to sign Halladay to an extension before they complete the trade for the former American League Cy Young Award winner. Halladay would waive his no-trade clause to pitch for the Phillies.

It is unclear who will be part of the deal, but there have been rumors that Cliff Lee could be involved. The Phillies could ship Lee to another team in return for prospects, which they possibly could spin to the Blue Jays to complete the deal.

How does this make any financial sense for the Blue Jays? They're getting rid of Halladay to preserve salary, not take on a nearly equal load in Lee's.

Rosenthal had this scenario a couple days ago. His "hypothetical" had a 3rd team involved to get Lee.

Whoa, your post is gone...but preserved forever.

As awesome as Halladay is, I'm trying to figure out how adding Halladay and losing a stud LHP like Lee makes the Phillies any better than they were last year?

Lee always carries the fear that he can't repeat his success.

Halladay is willing to sign an extension.

Lee wants to test the market.

Sounds like the Phils want the sure thing.

And whoever said this is a 'lateral move' for the Phillies.... what???

Halladay over Lee anyday...

Take advantage of Lee's recent success and move him.

Yeah, as crazy as it sounds, Halladay may end up with a cheaper contract than Lee. I'm interested to see the massive haul of prospects the Jays end up with if 2 ace pitchers are moving.
