More likely Konerko.

You think it's more likely to trade a first baseman with a bad contract and a no trade clause than it is Jenks? I understand there are other closers on the market, but aren't most of the ones worth signing Type A FAs?

The SoxNet twitter says "With the leadoff spot filled, Kenny has turned his attention to the middle of the order and we are told he's close on another deal." any ideas as to who?

That should have said "closing in". I was running out for a meeting (in the middle of a move). I got nothing but that bit of info as I mentioned in this thread or another thread a while back.

Anything else would be pure speculation, but I've heard Kenny has a target in place and is in talks to get that guy. We'll see what happens.

I personally think the DH situation might take a while to fill.

Not much to be familiar with. He does one of three things frequently. Walks, Strikes out, or Homers. Great OBP, great OPS. Can play a corner spot and 1st base. Neither of them very well.

I suggested Dunn a few pages back, and I think he would fit perfectly as a lefty with plenty of thump. Monetary considerations might not work well though.

Given the financial restraints, I'd have to think any deal is for a guy who isn't due to be a FA yet or a guy that the Sox will get cash sent along with them.

I'm really curious what Kenny has up his sleeve.

I think this is a good deal. We didn't give a lot up, we filled a hole with a guy who is probably going to bat in the .300s and isn't a terrible defender in LF, and he's cheap. The team is also now getting faster. I feel very good about this deal, I'm shocked he did it for that little money.

I like this move a lot... I like Pods and think he did some great things for this team in his career but last year he was great and aweful. Great with .300+ AVG, game winning hits, stolen bases every now and then. Aweful with the dropped balls in the outfield, throwing to the wrong base, getting picked off (ALOT), not hitting in clutch situations. I think Pierre will be a great leadoff man and will swipe 60+ bases if he plays everyday..

Agreed, I like the deal, Pods had some of the best Sox moments last year and some of the worst...that being said when he got signed he was playing out of his mind and won us a # of games, if JD/CQ and some others would have picked it up in the 2nd half I think we could have made some noise, but you can't count on Pods carrying a team that is for sure!! I wish him luck though but I see him playing for 1yr contracts the rest of his career, I mean he was unemployed for a good chunk of last season.

Juan Pierre is what Ozzie wanted so hopefully they work well together again and bring us to the post season. With the Tigers needing to dump salary the division is going to be there for the taking, I also think the Twins will be hurt by moving away from the Metrodome and will lose their homefield advantage.

One thing you'll notice watching Pierre play at home; our park is not suited for him one bit. The ball tends to hang up in the air due to the odd wind currents and there isn't a lot of room in the outfield unlike the 3 stadiums he's played in for the majority of his career so a lot of those shanks that would normally drop in front of an outfielder or the ball lofted into the gap that just gets down between the 2 defenders won't be happening nearly as often in the 81 games he'll play at the Cell. It's going to be hard for him to pick up many extra base hits or cheap singles at the Cell and since he's not really capable of driving the ball far enough to get it out of the normally easy-to-homer-in Cell he won't be able to take advantage of that either, our home ballpark really isn't built for his style of play.

Then I guess it's a good thing that his LD% and FB% are equal in his career.

Not sure if this was posted yet:

KW:

Williams: "The offseason we set out, right off the bat, to get our bench as strong as it could be. Then we turned our attention to the bullpen because we wanted to be strong from the top of the rotation to the back of the bullpen. Then, we had to address the leadoff situation, which we figured would take us about until this time, to get satisfied one way or the other.

"Juan is certainly someone who fits the bill. Love the guy's work ethic, love his intensity. He adds a lot to a club other than what he does on the field, but what he does on the field is pretty special."

On acquiring another bat:

"Ozzie and I have been speaking on that a while. He would like to sit where we are right now because he likes flexibility with the DH position, whether it's a guy needing a break, or keeping bench players fresh. Guys like Jones and Kotsay, Vizquel needing at-bats. I've given him some names, but he likes the flexibility, and this is a very critical last thing on our list here, because I don't want to do anything from my seat that conflicts with what my manager wants."
