I think he just pitched a season in the NL, and thats that. He has been traded 5 times in 12 seasons, why is that?

And good luck being a flyball pitcher in probably the biggest launching pad in baseball.

He's actually fairly GB/FB neutral. And I don't think you can look at the NL switch as the only reason his ERA dropped to 2.87. He's an excellent pitcher.

Whats the other reason of his improvement then? He learned a new pitch to add to his other 15? He has a 4.52 ERA in the AL, and I fully expect him to be around that for the Yanks.

His GB/FB is .70 for those who wanted to know, which is below league avg.

I like taking a look at Buehrle's stats compared to Javy to really see what kind of a pitcher he is. Mark is better in everything but K's, and that says alot.

I think mental toughness might be one Buehrle has a huge advantage in.

Fangraphs has Javy's GB/FB at 1.20 last season and .98 career.

Meh, he'll be beneficial to them getting the best record by August, then the Yankees can either just sit him down in Sept and bullpen him in October, or pitch him till the end of the season as there is less pressure for them to win if they clinch the division that early. See it makes sense. :D

Thats true to and if he doesn't do well the yankees will just trade for another pitcher . Vasques is the yankees Garcia or Dolisi no big deal

Pretty much no sites coincide with one another in regards to gb/fb ratio... even if it is off by the slightest bit, some vary greatly on the other hand.

What's interesting about this is that the Yankees are bringing him back under the same conditions the Sox brought him in. Following a World Series with an apparently dominating rotation where he can eat innings at the back of the rotation and not be relied on in big games. I'm interested to see how this goes.

Javy is a very valuable pitcher for the regular season because he starts 30+ games a year and pitches over 200 innings a year. He had arguably his career best year last year, but using ERA+, which is a quick crude stat but can be a good guide, his 3 out of 4 years in the AL he was around average or below and one year he was very good with a 126.

As a 4th or 5th starter he is great, and the NYY can afford to pay a 4th or 5th starter that kind of money, so it's a very good pickup for them.

Hopefully we can face him in the playoffs. It'd be nice to have an automatic win. And I can't believe anyone would call him a "great" or "excellent" pitcher, get out of here with that non sense.

great point. to me he is a very good pitcher, but I could never describe him as great or excellent. His overall performance in the AL are what I use to support that.
