Adam Laroche anyone?

Here are his career stats. I know he will be out of KW´s price range but maybe a 2 year 16-18 million contract? He has also been solid defensively.

We would have to move PK to DH or platoon Laroche at first and DH. What thinks ye oh White Sox pundits? Am I drinkin koolaid? :gosoxretro: :gosoxretro:

What if by chance KW moves PK in a surprising trade? Stranger things have happened.

If he was going to do that then Laroche would make sense, but I really think that would have been done already. No one's going to want to pick up his contract, and KW isn't going to want to pay $6 million to get someone else to take Konerko in exchange for an average prospect or two and then simultaneously spend $8 million on Laroche.

What's wrong with Konerko's contract? Isn't it only one year left at 14M?

I really think Aubrey Huff is the best fit for our ballclub based on what Ozzie is trying to do and what Kenny wants in a DH. Kenny wants a power bat, preferrably left-handed to break up the slew of RH we have and he is an ideal Ozzie type guy with his ability to DH and also by his ability to play the field. Granted, he is certainly not the best fielder, but he can spell PK at 1B, Teahan at 3B or either corner OF spot in a pinch. I also think financially, he will be affordable after a down 2009 season. He had a great 2008 season, and a bounceback to an .800-.850 OPS seems reasonable.

It doesn't help us to sign a person to play 1b for this year. It'll be cheaper to sign a DH than a 1b, because of the flexibility. As long as Konerko can play 1b this year, signing a guy who should be a full time 1b is an inefficient use of resources.

If Kenny is planning on letting PK walk as a free agent next winter and the DH spot is open, signing LaRoche to a multi-year deal and moving PK to DH would make sense.

That said, as has already been mentioned, LaRoche is going to want more money than the budget will likely allow.

I think it's actually entirely possible they might retain PK at the end of the season for another year or two, but there's little reason to rush it right now. There's more than a few other guys who might be options at that point as well, and it's also possible that Viciedo could get penciled in there at some point if his bat comes around more this year.

If PK doesn't want to test the FA market (like he did after 2005), a two-year extension with a mutual option for a 3rd (similar to what JD got in '07) might be possible. It's difficult to gauge what will happen there.

I could see that happening. If PK shows he can still play subpar defense and hit for average this year, hell why not sign him to an extension? The Sox really don't have a guy ready to come to play 1b from the minors. Unless they feel Viciedo is ready after another full season down in the minors. . Only time will tell.

I think the sox will get a bargain in a DH/ position player--Huff wouldn't be bad. When guys are still looking for jobs in Jan., the sox will be able to pick someone up for cheap. BTW, I found this on Fangraphs that in Huff's 2008 season, he increased his FB rate to a career high 41%. He could send a lot of those FB's into the RF seats at the Cell. And he does hit RHP well-something PK doesn't do.

I'll be honest, I always thought LaRoche was a little overrated. I don't really see anything special about him, and I don't really see him as a power-hitter.

I actually prefer having Thome back instead of LaRoche, and I'm really against having Thome back.

And like others have mentioned, I also prefer having Aubrey Huff as well.

With all these names being thrown around (LaRoche, Thome, Huff, Delgado, et al.) how can people be panicking? We'll end up with a bargain-basement DH but with legitimate power. I said it in the Delgado thread, but I think it merits repeating: anyone remember Carl Everett? Same thing. Not perfection, but I didn't cry myself to sleep at night either.

It will be Winn or Hinske, just because KW wants to drive us crazy putting together a team with Vizquel, Winn and Pierre at USCF.

The Sox and the Giants sure like each other's "talent", don't they?
