Marky Mark
I bought a Netgear RangeMax wireless USB 2.0 adapter (WPN111) for my desktop PC. I installed the software and followed the steps as the directions told me to. After installing, when I tried to open the software program, it opened and immediately closed itself within 1/10 of a second of opening it. I've tried opening it again and the same thing happens. I called both Netgear and Comcast and neither could help me. I currently have a netgear wireless router that works perfectly fine and my laptop receives wireless internet with no issues. I have also disabled my firewalls and antivirus software and it still doesn't work. Anyone have any clue why this is happening? I have Windows XP. Netgear said my problem was because I have service pack 3 which seems like a load of BS. Someone help me!
Kyyle23
And when they said the problem was SP 3, they offered no solution? They just said that is your problem and thats all?
kapkomet
go to windows start menu go to run cmd ipconfig /all see what your ip addy is registering try to do a release, renew: ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew see if that works... if that doesn't, you need to go into your router, usually by typing http://192.168.1.* (you should be able to get this number by looking at the ip addy you got when you did your ipconfig /all ) the default passwords are admin and admin, usually - see your instructions. I can't remember but I think you can set your ip ranges on one of the screens once you login. See if that gets you anywhere.
almagest
Uninstall the drivers and all the stupid, useless extra software they install for you. Reboot, and plug the card in. See if Windows picks it up and installs drivers for it. If not, try hooking the card up to a machine with wireless access, and see if it finds drivers online. If not, reinstall Netgear's stuff and see if those work.

Marky Mark
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 27, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) And when they said the problem was SP 3, they offered no solution? They just said that is your problem and thats all? Correct. I was on the phone with the lovely outsourced strong accented Netgear support guy for about an hour trying different things. He seemed like he was getting frustrated, so he said to hold on for a min so he could talk to his supervisor. He came back asking what type of service pack I had, when I told him it was 3 he said "Oh, well that's your problem. Its not compatible with service pack 3." He obviously was just out of ideas.
