Controlled Chaos
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) Man seriously there are some f***ed up people out there. Been pissed off for the last two days, but today takes the cake when I found out the details. One of my closest friends (known since I was 11) just got back from the Army about 2 weeks ago after bring out there for about a year and a half or so. So naturally he's been going out pretty much everyday with us, family, etc.. Couple days ago, he was out with his cousin at a bar (on the north-side I believe), and these 2 guys started to hit on his cousin. She said no, and was not interested. They kept going at it, again... no. Then, they started to get physical with her cause she wasn't interested. Well, my buddy is not a fighter and hates confrontation (despite being 6-4, 260) but he had to step in with what these jack asses were doing to her. Bar-tender kicked them all out.. no problem, so the guy challenges my boy to a fight. He said alright lets settle this like men even though he didn't want to, but probably could never forgive what that dick did to his cousin (which I won't say). The second guy (his friend) wound up sneaking around through the back, turns his truck on and ran my friend over, basically blind-sided him. Then, put the truck in reverse and ran him over again. Now here is my friend due back (or WAS due back) in the Army (and I believe in Iraq) in 2 weeks, is now having his second major surgery (the third, I believe, is scheduled for Saturday) to pair a shattered pelvis, 7 bones crushed in different spots in his left leg, broken knee-cap in his right leg, torn rotator in his left shoulder and broken bones in his left arm, and his face on the left side is supposedly (horrible looking) with the loose skin burned from the concrete/tires. I won't see him till Saturday, but I was incredibly pissed to hear this news today. Thank god I just heard a couple of hours ago, the police did in fact catch the two f***ers who did this and currently are locked up. No that won't bring back his pelvis, left-leg, etc.. but I hope those scumbags spend a long time in prison. I'm just glad he will probably walk again (even if it won't be 100% again), despite nearly having his spine crushed and better yet.. still ALIVE. Very emotional day. Best wishes to your friend for a full recovery Ace. Hearing about this and the incident with the bassist from Madina Lake, just makes you wonder what the hell is going on in this city. FlaSoxxJim
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 09:28 AM) Ace, that is awful, I hope he recovers quickly. I was coming in here to post something funny, now I feel weird about it. Or, maybe I should anyway. So I'm watching TV last night, and a commercial comes on. I thought, no way this is real, this has to be a parody or something. But no, its real, and its is both the funniest and most disturbing commercial I have ever seen. My wife and I couldn't stop laughing. Enjoy. Ha! I knew exactly what ad you were talking about before I even clicked. There's one for women as well and they are both incredibly visually disturbing, but the guy one takes top prize. How can the makers of that product think that visual is going to sell units? Also, how do they get the network censors to air it before 10pm??

lostfan
I came in this thread to b**** but Ace's story definitely tops mine. Holy s***. Anyway, to summarize, yesterday I come home hearing my alarm making a different beeping noise than normal so I figure a fuse blew or something. I go downstairs and the stairwell light doesn't come on, I figure ok I guess it's on the same fuse. But the basement light doesn't come on. And no fuses are blown. I call my wife and ask "are you behind on the bill?" She says yes, I say how much, enough to get it cut off? She says "I don't know." The f*** you mean "I don't know..." so I go to find the last bill and the first one I open is a disconnection notice from May saying it was $699... seriously what the f***. I open the next bill and that one is the recent one that includes June and next month or whatever and it's about $1200 total. Now, really. How is this even possible? She makes more than the total amount of her monthly bills by a fair amount so this shouldn't happen. She says she called and it turns out she missed a payment last year and missed one this year. How in the f*** do you miss an electric bill payment? And not notice, like the balance doesn't carry over from the previous month? So, yeah, I had to pull like $600 out of my ass. Good thing I just got paid.

lostfan
It is kind of sexist, but I had a guy over selling us windows and my wife wanted some elaborate $15k aluminum siding and decorations, and I was vetoing it because I wanted either a new furnace, new roof, or new HVAC system. The guy said "you know what, you just described 90% of the married couples' houses I go into, the woman wants something that looks nice and the man wants something functional or that will save money"

lostfan
I have another friend trying to get me to do one of those annoying mid-level marketing deals. Started with the whole "would it interest you to get in on a company before it goes big, check out this presentation." I saw it coming, I cut her off. Sure I like making money but come on don't bulls*** me like I'm not going to be working 30, 40, 50 hours a week on it if I'm going to be successful, like all I gotta do is give you a couple hundred and sit back and watch the checks flow in. Come on now.

Gas and electric here during the summer is about $110 a month in a 1 bedroom apartment. During the winter we are like $150+. Yeah that's the east I guess. Hell our fees are over $35 a month. iamshack
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) I have 2 refrigerators and an electric furnace, but in any case BGE did a massive rate hike a couple of years back. Cost of living on the east coast blows fat cock. A lot of this stems from the California energy crisis a decade ago. Many utilities became frightened of being so vulnerable to the wholesale energy markets and so they began building or buying power plants, mostly natural gas. Well, the funding for these plants was approved by your public utility commissions, usually in the form of a rate hike. So basically, you're paying for those plants now. Unfortunately, many areas had no need to buy or build new plants, but Enron f***ed everyone over by making our supply seem much shorter than our increasing demands. I know this is much more prevalent out west, but I am pretty certain it frightened a lot of utilities all over the country.
G&T
So I'm being dragged to James Taylor tonight, and it was almost entirely my own fault. My boss asked me last week what I was doing for the 4th and said we had no plans. She was flabbergasted and said my fiance and I had to go to this concert venue in the Berkshires called Tanglewood. The Boston Symphony plays there all summer because Boston's rich folk summer in the Berkshires. Anyway, the venue is outdoors and we bring our own beverages and food so I'm thinking this should be something nice for her. So I look online and it says James Taylor is playing and tickets are $22. I'm thinking, I hate James Taylor but she loves him, and at $22 who can go wrong? So I tell my fiance and she gets super excited. Unfortunately, the concert is actually sold out, but tickets are available on Stubhub for $75 a pop. D'oh. More than we should be spending with a wedding coming up. At this point, however, I had no choice. So now we are paying $150+ to go see a concert that I'm going to hate. BUT I get to bring wine, beer and food. And there are fireworks. So it can't be all bad. And it's going to be beautiful weather here tonight.
