Really? I'm on the brink of 'hiding' you.

I thought the same thing, but then I'm not sure how to unhide people for when this Q&A thing is over.

Weller is a contributor to the History Channel in several productions, credited as "Peter Weller, Syracuse University," where he is an adjunct faculty member. He is a graduate student in art history at UCLA, focusing on the Italian Renaissance. Weller also hosts the series Engineering an Empire for the network.

Speaking of Peter Weller in the TV thread, I remembered that I saw him on a History Channel thing earlier in the week as I was falling asleep. I forgot to look into it, but just did.

I was confused when the show said "Peter Weller, Syracuse University" and this explains it. I had no idea that he was on faculty there.

I'm not sure if this has been addressed or not...but what happened to The Diamond Club & some of the catch-all threads here in SLaM?

Our site owner doesn't like "Clutter" and he doesn't like pinned threads. TDC has briefly closed for the winter, and all baseball talk has been combined into a single forum.

Which, at least imo, has left everything dumped together and cluttered.

I only answered like 2/3 of the questions (people were asking me some pretty freaky s*** that I didn't want to answer) I had dozens of questions. I think it's over now though.

It's at the bottom of the news feed on the right. "Edit options"

Sweet, didn't know that. Thanks.

Had something happen last night that I just had to share...

My wife comes home with our daughter, walks in and says there was a guy opening and then crawling into a window of an apartment in the building next door. Dude was wearing a hoodie, she couldn't really make out what he looked like. We've had some break-ins (mostly to vehicles) in the area lately, so after some debate, I decide to call the cops to have them check it out. I figure, probably, the guy lives there and forgot his keys, so worst case, he gets a knock at the door, shows an ID, and is embarrased. No big deal.

Or not.

So about 2 minutes after I called 911, I see the first squad pull up outside on the street. Two cops get out in a hurry, and another squad shows up.

I'm thinking, wow, quick response time. Good to know.

First cops, driver throws the keys to the other cop, who goes and opens the trunk. Um... no, he isn't, is he? Yup. Comes out with a machine gun, looks like an MP-5 probably, goes running towards the building.

Oh s***.

So I go put my daughter and wife in a room that doesn't have any windows facing that building, and then go back to the front. Now there's like 5 squad cars and about 7-8 cops running around, doing a perimeter, blocking the street, etc. All this for a possible break-in. Neighbors have now come outside and started looking around, trying to figure out what's going on.

A couple minutes, later, my door buzzer goes off. Its a cop, they said it was just a neighbor who forgot his keys. I'm sure he got a good scare. I told my wife I wanted to go apologize, but she doesn't want me even acknowledging to them that we called.

I apologized to the cops, they said not to worry about it, they'd rather we call, etc.

Well, at least I know the cops will respond quickly and decisively to a call, if there's a real emergency in the future.

Holy crap! That seemed a bit excessive on their end but better safe than sorry I guess. :huh

Yeah, I felt the same way. Good to know they respond that quickly, but I think 8 cops and tactical equipment may have been a bit of an overreaction, unless they get there and find there really is a burglary in progress. That was a much bigger response than I've seen before for similar calls.

Well, technically, it was a sub-machine gun, if I'm write that it was an MP5. Still though, does seem like overkill.

Usually it's more associated with drug busts than someone calling a break-in, but there's certainly been a trend lately of cops using a lot more hardware than they need, thinking they're paramilitary or something.

Two summers ago I was walking home from a party (obviously underage) with a two other friends and we walked through an elementary school playground when a cop drove by. We figured we should probably get back home since the park was technically closed at night so we're about two houses away from my friend's place and a cop pulls over and starts talking to us. Then another cop appears, and another, and another, and so on until there were atleast 8 cops surrouding us, a few in undercover gear. All this for walking through a playground ( I understand they probably thought we were doing something illegal, but c'mon, they shouldve realized we weren't doing anything and didn't need 8 cops there). Funniest part was the first cop was asking where we were from, I answer that I used to live there but had moved and he says "I don't need your life story," and my other friend answers that he lives just 2 houses down, honestly like 10 steps away.
