fathom
QUOTE (b-Rye @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) Cubs may sign Dye today. Wow, not a good 24 hours of PR for the White Sox if that's true.

RockRaines
QUOTE (b-Rye @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) For sure... it'd be tough to see Dye on Cubs and Thome on the Twins. Not when Dye is letting fly balls drop in the outfield at Wrigley. They will have by far some of the worst corner OF'ers in the game when JD and Soriano are out there. YonderLaroche
Cubs sign Xavier Nady over Dye pending physical..... I was hoping the Sox went after Nady, but now the Cubs got him, his elbows probably toast and won't be able to throw.

If he can't throw, they won't have to worry about him chucking the ball into the stands after the second out.

SoxFan562004
Well, Ben Sheets got his 1 year and very good money (rumor was he was looking for a contract like he got from the A's or 2 years at less money). So looks like the lure of playing for the Cubs for the 1 year and like 4-5m they wanted to sign him to didn't work!
Dick Allen
The Cubs signed Chad Tracy to a minor league deal. He'll make 900k if he makes the team.

SoxFan562004
Dawson to go in to the HOF as an Expo, not a Cub. Probably cost Andre a little money for signatures, etc, but if you look at the numbers probably the right decision, but an argument can be made for the Cubs since he was an MVP for them and with WGN he was brought more fame with the Cubs. whitem0nkey
this is what Fark chose to use. as their headline. The Baseball Hall of Fame decides it would be less embarrassing for Andre Dawson to go into the Hall of Fame representing a team that no longer exists instead of the Cubs

Yes, it started when guys such as Dawson and I believe Boggs were putting clauses in the contracts to go in as Marlins or Devil Rays. I have no doubt Dawson would have wanted to go in as a Cub because IMO it would have meant more money for him in appearances signatures etc... chw42
Turns out JD turned down the Cubs' $3.3 million offer. I wonder why...
Quin
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) sad/funny thing is, the lets go white sox song is more lame than the cubs one lol Go Go White Sox is a '50s fight song. Go Cubs Go is 80's sing-a-long. FWIW, San Diego Super Chargers is like, such a great theme song.
SoxFan562004
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) Turns out JD turned down the Cubs' $3.3 million offer. I wonder why... with Sheets and Dye the Cubs were hoping that the myth that it's an honor to play for the Cubs was true and players would take less money or less of a role than they are looking for. Dye has said all along he wants to play the OF and be a regular player, so why would he go to the Cubs and be a 4th OF? If there's no offers for him out there for full time OF I could see him bending a little and playing a majority DH somewhere and occasional OF duty and if he can't find that, I wouldn't be shocked if he just retired. I still think the best fit for JD is San Francisco. I know he struggles in the OF, but it's the NL and I think his bat would come around and the Giants still need some offense IMO

They don't have Bradley anymore, remember? Yes, I remember perfectly well that they don't have Bradley anymore, I also remember they have Fukudome who they are moving over there, it's why they got Byrd to play center and when the rumors were going around that's what the sources were telling Levine and the guys on the score. Fukudome is making around 10m and Dye would have been around 3m, they would have given Fukudome every chance to lose that spot Edited January 31, 2010 by SoxFan562004
Harry Chappas
I am thinking that the White Sox may have an agreement with Dye for a few million if he does not find work elsewhere to his liking not sure why it just feels that way.
