ThunderBolt
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 08:24 AM) 50:50 now according to Cowley. Going with a platoon of Thome and Jones at DH makes the most sense. Now, that's a decent platoon. Let's get this done, and say, "thank god for sanity." macsandz
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 08:35 AM) Now, that's a decent platoon. Let's get this done, and say, "thank god for sanity." The pressure from the players (Konerko & AJ), the recent charity connection, the SoxFest experience and Kenny's lack of trust for Ozzie's "plan" are motivating the Thome resigning. You can just feel it.
soxrwhite
Does anyone know the dimensions of the Twins new ballpark? With Mauer, Morneau, and Kubel (all lefties) perhaps they have a short right field porch. Thome would fit that plan.
daa84
i love this lineup... Pierre LF Beckham 2b Thome DH Quentin RF Konerko 1b AJ C Rios Cf Teahen 3b Ramirez SS plus its not like Jones wont play plenty vs. lefties spelling thome at DH (perhaps playing the OF with one of pierre or quentin DHing). Kotsay will also play a decent amount giving konerko, and the OFers days off. Vizquel backs all of the IF positions. Its nice that in a pinch, all of Teahen, Beckham, Vizquel and Ramirez can play 2b, and all those guys but Teahen can play SS, and all of them but Ramirez can play 3rd. Gives us alot of protection if there is some injury

It breaks up the RH bats, he gets on base, he hits for power. I just hate to have a clogger on the paths again so high in the lineup. Balta1701
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) Something about batting Thome third just doesn't sit right, but I can see the benefits. It breaks up the RH bats, he gets on base, he hits for power. I just hate to have a clogger on the paths again so high in the lineup. I want Thome hitting 4th or 5th depending on how good he actually is. Pierre, Rios/Alexei, Beckham, Quentin, Thome, Konerko, AJ, Rios/Alexei, Teahen. Springfield Soxfan
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) Very few HR are hit right down the line. The big measurements are the gaps. Again, love Thome, but don't want him and I don't want Ozzie to be guilted into taking him. There are so many more options, he stinks against LH relievers. ThunderBolt
Sigh. Reifert's twitter has more posturing between KW and Ozzie "Ken: Thome not a fit on '10 team unless Ozzie says, but he'll always be part of Sox family." http://twitter.com/InsideTheSox/statuses/8113785354

DirtySox
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) Yeah, why the hell is CJ Wilson a topic at soxfest? Because he was asked about it during a seminar. He said he doesn't like CJ Wilson because he showed up Thome after an at bat. He then pointed out CJ got what was coming to him when Carlos hit a grand slam off him later in the same game.
The Beast
Someone at SoxFest rag on Guillen and KW to get Thome signed. What do you guys think about the platoon at DH? Looking at the Sox roster, does it make sense to re-sign Thome? It doesn't sound like KW is too enthused about the possibility of bringing Thome back... EvilJester99
I think Thome has too long of a swing to be an effective part time hitter....
Balta1701
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) I think Thome has too long of a swing to be an effective part time hitter.... It depends on what we're talking about as part time. Part time as in an NL style pinch hitter who gets an at bat a game, no, because of how streaky he is; he does his big damage in spurts. Part time as in playing 3-4 days a week, could possibly work.
