I personally think it's too early for adoption of 4K. Besides Blu Ray and games, there is little to none 1080P content. To me, it's the new fad these companies are trying to sell, like 3D was. Also, I've seen many of the 4Ktv deals are for 60hz, and for me, it's not acceptable. I'll stay at home with my nice 60 inch plasma and wait until something better comes along.

4K isn't like 3D because it doesn't require anything extra from the viewer (like wearing glasses), and it isn't going to hurt anyone's eyes, and it's not going to be annoyingly different for anyone. If it doesn't catch on, it will be because the entertainment industry didn't cater to it and people didn't want to spend the money. It won't be because people hate it or find it annoying.

It does require a lot more bandwidth or storage for what I feel is a minimal gain. Does it look better? Yes. Does it look THAT much better? No. It's not the jump we witnessed from VHS to DVD or DVD to BluRAY. 4k/8k makes more sense for massive movie theater screens.

Resolution, it seems, has become the next spec sheet filling mhz/ghz / megapixel race.

It also requires a new HDMI standard

Got my Nexus 6.

It's big, but not a pain to use or anything. I have fairly big hands, so that helps a bit. The screen real-estate is amazing. I haven't really noticed any slow-downs from the encryption, but I know I'll definitely turn that off when I get a chance to do it.

If you haven't experienced any slow down why would you remove it?

Benchmarks show that the storage speed is so much slower with it on. Google's not using hardware encryption on the Snapdragon 805 for some weird reason. I may not have done enough to experience this, but a lot of people have noticed slowdowns when storage is accessed.

Can the 805 do hardware encode and decode? I know a lot of chips only do one, but why in 2014 they'd even implement that without hardware encode/decode I have no idea.

Yeah the 805 can. Google half-assed it. They were probably more busy with the 5.0 release.

I've tried googling this and can't really seem to find an answer...Not sure we have any guys here that might be able to help....

I've got a Proscan tablet that's been giving me a big head ache the last couple days. It all started about 4 or 5 days ago when I noticed a clicking sound and periodically there would be a vertical white line that would go across the screen. It would happen more and more often and then yesterday it the screen went green with a bunch of horizontal lines....The battery life had increasingly gotten worse as well.

This morning it actually worked, temporarily so I decided to do the factory reset. It worked for a good 5-6 hours. Then it went out again after more of the same clicking and the lines going across the screen.

Now when attempting to turn it on the screen will go black and flash sometimes and other times it will temporarily work before again failing....Now while it was working I just got a screen that looked like a Bill Cosby sweater.

Any idea what the problem is?

I'm talking about when you're viewing it, there is no chance in what the audience has to do or get used to. 3D had those issues.

Yea, I'm not even a big fan of 3D in the theater, I find that after a few minutes the novelty wears off and I find it distracting while adding very little to the experience.

While true, you still need different hardware, and most importantly content. Content is not there to justify the cost of a 4ktv. There's no telling if it'll ever be there. I honestly don't think so unless Google's Fiber 1Gbps internet is launched mainstream to everyone. Even then, I think you'll barely see 1080P content becoming mainstream.

.....yes....but those are also the same obstacles 3D had. I'm saying the reasons why I don't think it's fair to say 4K will be a fad JUST LIKE 3D was a fad is because no one will be ANNOYED by 4K. No one will have to get used to watching 4K screens. People can just walk in the room and look at a 4K picture. 3D can't say that.

Yosemite is brutal, the windowserver process just eats CPU's when it gets stuck at full throttle, the updates for this version will be many.

Been like a dream for me. You're not the only one having that problem though.

Its only on my imac and not on my macbook air. I had to do some higher level troubleshooting that most people wouldnt be open to doing. I am sure they will fix it.

So despite working in the software industry, I rarely keep up with things like the latest and greatest smartphones. I'm going to be upgrading soon, and due to me working with android quite a bit lately I was thinking about making the switch to an Android device. Are there any brands/phones that I should particularly avoid or check out?

Moto X, LG G3, HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z3. Those are the best flagships right now.

Just got Lollipop on my HTC One and this thing is beautiful. I want to use it just to look at it.

Some of the animations are awesome. I had it on my Nexus 5 and felt like it wasn't any faster than Kit Kat. But then I got the Nexus 6 and everything is smooth as hell.

Was battery improved?
