Balta1701
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) I just tried the same videos on IE, and same issue, so doesn't look like a browser issue. Could a virus be causing this? Maybe, flash player supposedly does have some issues, but if it doesn't work on anything try uninstalling and then reinstall flash player? bmags
Sigh, what are people's thoughts: - my phone the other day started emitting a metallic battery acid burning smell when charging in my computer - since then it will only charge with one charger on "slow charge that takes ten hours - it also bare,y gets through the day for me anymore unless on airplane mode for most of day - I am very frustrated - I am in process of buying a house - most money is tied up in that, and probably can't buy phone in full - I don't want to apply for T-Mobile payment plan before my mortgage rate is locked in (suffering through a short sale) - I for some reason have insurance on sprint, should I just say it's stolen and pay outrageous deductible for refurbished phone? - also, phone is unlocked, so repair may not be accepted Thoughts? Better ideas?

Better ideas? What phone? How long have you had it? I'd probably start by calling the OEM and telling them that you first noticed this happening using the charger it came with (charging any other way is often a violation of warranty). If you're within the warranty period, there is a chance the manufacturer will take the blame and send you a new one. If that doesn't work out, I'd look into the terms of the Sprint insurance. This isn't necessarily some kind of user-induced damage. Saying it's stolen might cause problems, I think - they may want to make some sort of effort to track it down. If you are forced to get a new phone, I'd look into getting a Moto G. They really have very few compromises and retail for less than $200. They also get Android updates on an almost Nexus-like schedule.
NorthSideSox72
Video editing question... Let's say you wanted to create a video clip, which was just a specific few seconds of a movie. I have literally never done video editing before. I am not sure yet if the video will exist somewhere on the interwebs either, so, here are the scenarios: 1. Assuming I can find on YouTube or the like, is there a way (without expensive software) to download the video, clip out the part I want and save it? 2. Since I have a DVD of the movie, if I put that into my computer's disc drive, could I clip it out from there? Any help is appreciated! There are many ways to do this, from extensions that allow you to download YouTube video/sound, to programs that allow you to decrypt and rip a DVD into a more computer friendly format, allowing you to then drag and drop the data file(s) into a video editor. Then there are a lot of video editors, but for this specific use case, Windows Movie Maker (or whatever they call the current version of this) on a PC, or iMovie on a Mac can perform the tasks you're looking to perform, quite easily. I can't wait for my contract to end in June. I enjoyed the One for about 6 months, but it's been really a pain since then. I know a lot have not had the issues I've had, but this is basically a rundown: - Poor battery - Phone gets really hot when running any application. - When it gets hot, the camera has a terrible purple tint - When trying to take multiple pictures, sometimes my battery goes from "half" to suddenly powering down. Just can't take it. - Struggles to download MMS. I thought this was sprint, then thought it was android, but nobody else I've seen has as much troubleg etting group texts as me. So it has not been fun. I may get a moto g or I found some used moto x for $120. Beats paying $150 for insurance on this thing for a new refurbed one. Damn I would have chucked that phone out the window if I had those issues. I've never had a phone crap out on me that badly. It seems like you had a defective phone. The new Moto G is a very good phone for the price. Highly recommended. Edited January 13, 2015 by chw42

If you want absolute honesty, when it comes to most phones these days, despite being moderately expensive, they're largely considered "disposable" tech. When they break, it's usually cheaper to replace the entire unit than to fix the broken components. Upgrading a phone every 12 months is not only common, it's almost expected by these manufactures, and most of the phones are built within that mindset, whether we agree with it or not. I'm an iOS guy, but I'd give you the same advice as I'd give anyone else, Android or not. Buy the best you can buy at the time you're buying it, and it'll last the longest, and try to buy from a manufacturer with a history of timely updates and support. I'm looking forward to moving to Tmobile where this can be accommodated better. Really what just makes this s*** luck is timing for me. I would have jumped ship but I need my credit and am hoarding all cash while we hope to execute this short sale purchase. I will say, this is why I regard the iPhone 4 to be best phone ever. Thing lasted 30 months without fail, and continues to serve as a backup for us and my friends. Loved that thing. Can't move back to it now because at&t phone. Balta1701
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) If you were on TMobile your AT&T iPhone would work. I tried moving my iPhone4 from ATT to TMobile. It refused to make calls. Constantly. No idea why. I'd have to turn it off and on just to make calls or send/recieve a text. It would also do so at random intervals so that even while sending a "please call me" or "please get this" text/email it wouldn't go through and you wouldn't know that it had decided not to go through until hours later when it would randomly be happy again. Every time I contacted TMobile their advice was to turn the phone off and on which did work, but which had the problem of "I can't constantly turn the phone off and on just in case someone is trying to call me". I had to switch networks again after that. Maybe it was the phone, I dunno, but that was pretty rough.

If you are paying retail every 12 months, a large chunk (if not all) of the savings between carriers gets eaten up.

Jake
About 12 hours after my positive experience with a MacBook Air led me to buy one for my girlfriend, mine starts having this weird rattling noise. Fairly noticeable rattle when I move it side to side and a subtler one every few seconds when stationary. The subtler one would plausibly be a fan but I don't know about the other. I can't always reproduce the other.

The fans aren't spinning at all if iStat is to be believed. It makes sense given that I heard something rattling around in response to my moving the machine, but now I can't do that. Now, I have the new symptom of this faint rattling every ~5 seconds and no fan spinning. It must be blocked by whatever came loose in there and I'm hearing its efforts at turning. bmags
One happy ending, I"m getting a replacement phone for free. I can handle the remainder of contract. I just priced out tmobile/att/verizon though. 2 people line with iphone 6 estimate: Tmobile Unlimited data 100 for 2 lines 54 for 2 phones = 154 for month Verizon Edge 4 GB data (we've never gone over 3GB) 120 2 phones = 178 ATT Next Never figured out the breakdown, but they quoted 218! DrunkBomber
Anyone else have the iphone 6+? I got it for xmas and really like it. I was torn between the 6+ and the edge but figured it would be easier to go with the 6+ because my last phone was an iphone and it would be easier to transfer pictures and restore paid apps ect. Im really surprised how well the finger print scanner works as well.
