Actually its about money.

If I can spend $1mil in lawyer fees and cause $5mil of expenses to my competitor, I just did something good. These type of tactics go back as far as the Wright Brothers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wright_brothers_patent_war

You really think "$5 million in legal fees" is a major hit to the performance of a competitor? When Apple is sitting on a hundred billion?

I was just using random numbers.

If they can delay the release by 1 day, how much does that cost Samsung, etc, etc.

The point is Apple has $100billion to screw with people, this is nothing more than screwing with people.

It's seriously pissing people off. It's not like the people who are pissed off that they won't get their Galaxy S IIIs or HTC One Xs on time will switch over to the iPhone. They get those phones because they like the big screens, not Apple's puny 3.5 inch screen. They'll just be pissed off at Apple even more.

Apple is losing its stake in the phone market. It's been that way for like the past couple of years with Android becoming very mainstream and Windows Phones picking up some steam. They're just trying to compensate by suing over ambiguous things. Thing is, I don't think it's going to sway public opinion to go towards Apple, it just makes them look like bigger dicks.

If they are already planning on getting a samsung phone then why does it hurt Apple to piss them off? Also android is an operating system not a type of phone. I believe the other actual phone manufacturers have a little catching up to do. Personally I think Apple is doing pretty well owning the market in both phones and tablets, "'owning" a particular space is I believe is having 30% market share.

I don't think Apple gives a s*** if they are pissing you off. The VAST majority of people don't know or don't care about any of this nonsense. They are merely trying to use whatever means available to them to continue to produce the highest-selling products.

I doubt the average Iphoner out on the streets is following corporate trademark lawsuits.

Android phones are phones with Android OS...,

http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/01/comscor...are-march-2012/

Android phones currently have a 50%+ foothold in the U.S. phone market. Apple is sitting at 30%. Sure, that's one manufacturer vs. at least 3-4 major manufacturers (Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola), but Samsung is by far the big dog of the 4. In fact, Samsung itself is catching up with Apple in market share alone at 29%.

The true irony is that all of Apple's devices use Samsung chipsets. Samsung is too afraid of Apple going away (that's a big customer for them), so they re-designed the Galaxy S III in a lot of ways to avoid patent infringements. I guess that's what you call a weird relationship.

This has nothing to do with the quality of their current products or future products. It has everything to do with trying to slow down the competition.

Plus, I'm sure a lot of people will care if Apple somehow gets this ban to go through (which would be absurd BTW). They already held up HTC in customs for the stupid data tapping crap. I know some co-workers who ordered the new HTC Evo 4G LTE from Sprint and haven't gotten it yet because of it. To say the least, they're not happy.

This is why I said highest-selling and not highest quality.

While Android phones, by sheer numbers, often outsell Apple's iPhone on a worldwide basis...the number that actually matters is the profits...

Apple's share of the mobile phone market's profits is a whopping 75%.

Yes, you read that right...75%.

That means the remaining 25% of it is shared between Samsung, Motorola, HTC, Research in Motion, Nokia, etc...

That's why Apple doesn't care who it pisses off...the money talks...and right now it's saying Apple is -- by far -- #1.

Two words...App Store.

The other manufacturers don't get commission from the apps Google has on Google Play. Google gets that money. Apple gets 30% commission on everything from the app store. It might not be the entire reason, but it has a lot to do with it.

Apple is overcharging their customers because people are paying for the brand?! No way!

Apples subsidies are also way higher per phone. Regardless of that, doesn't matter how they're doing it, just that they are.

It's quite amazing how easy it is for them, once they herd the sheep.

What is it with certain topics with you, where you just insist on making completely inaccurate statements for baiting purposes?

I'll be the first to agree that Apple certainly attains part of their customer base due to them being a "fashionable" brand. However, you acts as though their products aren't industry-leading. Simply because you buy the best product on the market does not make you a "sheep."

The iPhone, all things considered, has been the best phone on the market since its inception.

Overcharging? It seems to me like maybe they've streamlined their production costs and leveraged their position within the industry to negotiate very profitable deals with the carriers to build those revenues.

iPhones, considering their capabilities and quality are very reasonably priced in the market. They certainly are not gouging.

This is such nonsense it's not even funny.

Why are people sheep if they love something that you don't love? It has nothing to do with "sheep"...it has everything to do with having a device that's so easy to use that my parents -- who are in their mid 60's -- can use it without calling me constantly for help.

Not only that but the quality of their devices. My mother, also in her 60's, has broken more laptops and cellphones over the course of the last decade than probably any other person on earth. They might last 3-4 months due to her spilling things in them, her dogs drooling on them, her dropping them, etc. She's now had an iPad and an iPhone for 2 years now and neither of them has so much as a scratch on them.

I've been an iPhone user since the first generation...and I've NEVER used a case on ANY of my iPhones. And I've broken or cracked exactly zero of them over that span of time. Zero. And I've dropped a number of them on sidewalks, in parking lots, etc...some people just aren't lucky.

It's a phone...not a football, not a wrench...a phone. Made of glass, silicon, plastic and metal...they're not supposed to be invincible. It's no different than a laptop or tablet...you don't go around dropping those and complain if/when they break.

I've been in IT for well over 10 years as a professional, and before that, for over 10 years as an enthusiast...dating way back to the 1980's and my Commodore 64. I've seen technology grow and change, and I've tended -- over that time -- to grow and change with it without regard to brand loyalty. I'm loyal to my users, and my time. My parents and Windows did not mix. Since moving them to OSX, their "tech support" calls have fallen from once a day to once a year. Yes, please.

I seriously have to be the only person to ever have bad experience with Apple products.

My MacBook CPU gets to over 100* Celsius if I dare open more than 3 programs.

That seems a bit excessive...

Why not kick the fans and make sure they're operating as expected...or...as you want.

Get this: http://www.eidac.de/?p=207

Problem should be solved, unless something's just wrong with your CPU.

Edit: Allows you to control the speed of each individual fan in whatever model Mac you own...if your CPU seems to run hot (and yours seems possibly running at broken heat ranges), this will let you control the fan that sits above your CPU and cool it.

Yeah, I don't use cases for my phone either...i like to be able to easily slide it in and out of my pocket and the rubber cases have a tendency to grab the fabric of your pants.

I've also dropped them a million times. My iPhone 4 has a few battle scars, but it's a phone. It's not a piece of artwork I hang on my wall, nor is it something I intend to have for more than 2-3 years.

I've had a few problems in the past. I had an iMac whose hard drive crashed. Twice. My original iPad also had a problem with the dock connector and had to be replaced. Apple products are certainly not immune to breaking or having problems just like anything else. They just tend to happen fewer and farther between than with other brands I've used.

When they did break though, Apple always honored their warranties and made it easy to replace the item.

The subsidies Sprint and Verizon pay are ridiculous, especially Sprint, who took a $15.5 billion gamble. They paid through the nose so much that they're going to sell iPhones on prepaid plans with Virgin Mobile. The cost? $650 for an iPhone 4S,$550 for an iPhone 4.

iPhone 4 = 2 years old, $550, that's far from reasonably priced. It also shows just how much the carriers have to subsidize the phones to get them affordable. Apple is charging these carriers a whole ton of money and I'm not totally sure that they're really making as much money as they should on it.
