You can play windows games on an Apple, its not that hard.

Sure you can...but most people don't buy Apple computers specifically to do so.

I have a Win7x64 partition on my iMac, I sometimes straight boot into that or use Parallels for games that don't work in OSX native, but most of what I play works in OSX.

Ha, thats almost my set up. I also love the multiple monitors for gaming.

Apple's maps in iOS6 probably won't even be available until the iPhone5 is out...that will give 2 generations support for turn by turn (4S and 5). As it is now, NO iPhone gets turn by turn with the Google maps software they currently use...so I don't see how you can possibly pretend this is a negative.

Currently, nobody gets turn by turn unless they buy a GPS specific app, such as Garmin, etc...for over 50$.

After the change, 4S and 5 users will get turn by turn via built in maps software.

It's a negative because their maps app is going to be worse than google's there is no doubt in my mind, because nobody does maps better than google. So now they're removing google maps from my phone putting in their s***ty app and not giving me turn by turn. I don't feel the need to upgrade to the 4s or 5 when my 4 is doing absolutely perfect just for siri and turn by turn. Hopefully google puts a map app in the app store and hopefully apple allows it or I am going to be pissed.

Upgrades shouldn't be downgrades to people who don't want to jump on every new generation of iPhone.

Until then I guess waze will have to do.

I just shattered the screen on my barely 8 month old T-Mobile G2X. I dont have the money to get a new phone right now. Are there any good/reliable cellphone repair places that will replace the screen? THere's a "hole in the wall" place near me, but I get worried about places like those. I like quality and reputation.

Ouch! Just as ICS is rolling out on that device.

You do NOT have turn by turn now...not with the built in Google maps app...so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

That and you don't have to upgrade your phone to IOS6 if it offers nothing you like.

Yes, but the google maps without the turn by turn is better than the apple maps without the turn by turn. I have no way to prove this other than I doubt apple can start up a maps thing and suddenly be better than google at it.

What I am saying is if I can't have turn by turn I'd rather have google maps than apple's map thing.

And yes I will have to update to iOS 6 if it offers nothing I like because my OCD will go crazy if there's a one badge on the settings app :P

Hopefully Apple allows google to put their maps app in the app store and this entire thing will be moot.

What are you even talking about? You're just saying things to say them now. You haven't even used the Apple maps application, and you're making claims as to what it can and cannot do.

Apple didn't "suddenly start a maps app", it's been something they've been working on for years. They also bought 2 3 mapping technology companies along the way, to incorporate their advanced map software into their own. They then signed a cross licensing deal with Yelp, to integrate all of Yelps data/reviews into their mapping software.

I know people who work for Apple, and though they said this application is not yet complete, that it WILL give Google's maps a run for it's money, and is in many ways, superior.

I'll have to wait to see it myself to make an official judgement...but Apple's map application looks like a full and capable replacement.

Edit: As a follow up, Apple purchased C3 Technologies, Poly9 and Placebase (3 mapping companies)

Sorry, but there is just no way at launch that Apple's will be better than Google's. Maybe after a year or two they will be better but without turn by turn it's going to be a downgrade at first.

Apparently Google will be coming out with a maps app for iOS so this is all moot though.

You simply do not know this.

As I said, it's something Apple has worked on for years, and incorporates the technologies of 3 other map companies they purchased for hundreds of millions of dollars.

And Google hasn't worked on it's maps for years? I know that Google is king when it comes to maps and no other company comes close. How is Apple supposed to top it at launch by buying a bunch of companies that were worse than Google?

They might top it, but it wont be when iOS 6 launches.

They will not top it. Google literally has cars driving around mapping streets all over the world on a consistent basis. They will not be overtaken any time soon.

For years now, Google has been sending Street View cars around the world, collecting rich data about streets and the things alongside them. At first, this resulted in Street View imagery. Then it was the underlying street geodata (i.e., the precise longitude/latitude paths of streets), enabling Google to ditch Tele Atlas and make its maps out of data it obtained from Street View vehicles.

Bing maps are also very good, too. Very, very good. Of course, you'd know that since you're an apparent map expert that has used no mapping service other than Google maps!

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about anymore. Yes, Google has good maps, very good, but they've done almost nothing new with it other than add turn by turn (Android only) over the last few years. They've FINALLY made some announcements that upcoming changes are occurring...and why? Because they know Apple is entering the market...and now they can't sit back and do nothing...

Competition is good, and this is yet another example as to why.

When Apple takes something seriously, and it appears they are taking this seriously, they tend to do it really REALLY well.

Competition is great as long as Apple doesn't force you to use their maps which I wouldn't put past them.

This is the case with almost every new Apple product. You and I both know that there is a group of people who will buy anything with an Apple logo slapped on it.

Yep. And Apple also underproduces their products at launch so that way people can talk about how fast they sold out of items. If people hear something is selling out fast, they are going to assume it must be awesome, and then want to get it.

For the love of Pete...it's a f***ing map program, people....what the hell do you do that requires you to depend on this thing so heavily?

I travel often for work and I now live in a new state. It's a critical app for me.

You might be the only person alive that doesn't recognize google as the king of maps.

No, I might be the only person here not pretending there aren't viable alternatives. There are.

I do like Google maps, but it's not so much better than Bing maps, or the upcoming Apple maps that I couldn't switch.
