Does it upset you that I refuse to take your bait, Steve?

Get over it...I am happy with the device. Just like millions and millions of people are happy with Apple devices.

Why is that so difficult for you to accept?

I'm sorry, I really should have put "HATER!" in green, because I was totally joshing around... I said I was glad you liked your iPad, and I meant it.

Nah. I've used Apple products and they are gorgeous. I was just playing with the iPad today and wanted to get my $0.02 in, that is all. If it fits your needs perfectly, then it's a money product for you.

I think if it had the following four things, it'd be awesome:

1. Ability to install printer drivers and print wirelessly

2. hdmi - out

3. Full browser functionality (ie javascript)

4. web cam - I'm shocked it lacks this feature

steve, you commute with public transportation right?

Do you really not see yourself within the next ten years (in ANY fashion) picking up a slate-type computing device while you are on the train or bus?

I mean, i think right now it's hard to see that market. But electronics in the US are very cheap, and in ten years, this will be very cheap, or in the same price range with WAY more power and memory.

But for my hour spent on the express bus each day, hell yeah i'd love to bust out a small slate and read my blogs instead of just listening to music.

edit: said laptop...no way i'm takin out a laptop's bulky/openy s*** on public transport.

I dunno. The iPad isn't exactly small (and the HP slate is f***in HUGE). I'd rather these things were about the size of a Kindle. And I'd rather the screens worked with e-ink instead of that glossy glass crap they're all going to have - of course, they need to figure out how to make e-ink 1080p so I can watch HD porn on the train - so I can take it to the park and read a book or surf the web or just flat out DO ANYTHING with it on a nice, sunny day.

Also, since we're already in a tech-geek thread...

Anyone want to take a stab at why I can't reply to the forums here in Firefox, but can in IE? In Firefox I can type in the forms and stuff, but I can't move the cursor anywhere. It doesn't show up. I only have this problem on SoxTalk, as well.

Seems to be a few like you out there with IP Boards cursor issues in Firefox,

The last post talks about running Firefox in safe mode to see if it's an add-on that might be causing your issue.

I don't know why it is that Apple inspires such hate from certain people.

It's really not meant to compete dollar for dollar with your Crap (I mean PC) laptop.

It's the Apple arrogance that gets to people. Its like talking to Yankees fans.

it's not that we insist apples can't get viruses, it's that we don't, and it's nice. I don't give a f*** if it's because people don't care since less people use them, it's still brilliant to have had a laptop for 5 years with absolutely zero problems when my friends with dells have gone through 2 or 3.

No, my friend is completely technologically illiterate and thinks Apples are immune to getting viruses. FWIW, I haven't run anti-virus software on my PC for years and haven't had a virus.

Which, in this case, is limited and strictly-controlled functionality.

Some people have been having issues with certain skins in Firefox. Try changing that?

Maybe so, but I really don't know enough about computers to really care. I just want the product to be good at what I want and need it to do. Apple machines seem to be much better at accomplishing that for me.

So because the OS is no longer sold means it isn't still running on millions of machines?

Sorry, but Microsoft has not earned my trust yet. I will not buy a windows machine simply because this latest OS hasn't made everyone's computing experience a complete disaster yet.

And to be honest with you, the money really isn't that huge of a deal to me. The device does exactly what I need and want it to do, is of a more aesthetically pleasing and intuitive design for me to use.

I know in advance it will be well-made, it will continue to be improved, it will not be obsolete in a year because it has a company standing behind it that will support it.

Therefore, to me, the pricetag is acceptable.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but why did Vista make everyones lives a computing disaster. I agree that I wasn't a huge fan of the OS system, but it still worked, was functional, and I've never ran into any significant issues while operating with it. It was a resources hog though.

First of all, being a resource hog is a bad thing.

Secondly, it was at war with itself. Every time I tried to install something on it or run something on it, it screwed up something else on the system and produced never-ending errors. If you tried to uninstall something, it was even worse. It wanted to be the only thing on my computer; putting any other software on there just made it angry, getting rid of software that I had put on there made it even angrier.

It reminded me of the incomplete/crappy version of Windows 98 that I had on an older Gateway PC...it eventually reached a point where I got it to an adequate number of errors that I could cancel out of every time in order for the computer to run basic functions like Firefox, but nothing beyond that, and I just let my wife use it until an upgrade to Windows 7 was available.

Well, to be fair, I said it made peoples' computing experience a disaster, not their lives a computing disaster...)

Secondly, so because it managed to work and be functional, it was not a complete disaster of a product? Is that the standard that you have come to accept from Microsoft? Is that a reflection on what they have done to PC users that those users are willing to accept something that merely manages to "work" and be "functional"?

My PC has done everything I've needed it to do and hasn't stopped me from doing anything I couldn't. There has never been a time where I looked at my computer and said, s***, if only I had a mac I could do this or if only I had a mac I wouldn't have this issue.

Never has that ever happened to me. So since that is the case, I can't really justify paying double for a machine that for all intents and purposes to me, will do nothing better for me.

And I'm not referring to an Ipad, I'm referring to a Mac compared with a PC.

There are more than a few times where I've lost hours, or even days, sitting around screaming at a Microsoft product because I don't know what else to do to make it work. Yet, I'm still a Microsoft user.

Oh, I know what you're referring to. If you managed to work with Vista without being frustrated, annoyed, having to restart or shutdown, or without just plainly giving up in frustration, than you should consider yourself lucky.

Have you used a Mac machine on a consistent basis at all?

I am a Mac user, and going back to Windows' machines and having to use Vista while staying at my parents' home on my visits home to Chicago has been absolutely brutal. The difference, in my experience, between using a Windows' machine and a Mac machine over the course of the past several years has been night and day. To the point where if a Mac machine was 5x's the cost of the Windows' machine I would still buy a Mac.

I've used Macs for work from time to time. I'd be lying if I said I was a mac expert. I consider myself to be well above average on a PC. I'm not quite a computer programmer, but I'm smart enough and technologically illiterate to get things accomplished and that might be why I haven't had significant issues with a PC (because I don't think of stuff as work-arounds, I just know how to get it accomplished).

However, when I've used macs I've just never gotten comfortable and that might go back to the fact that I've never had to work on a mac for a month period in a row. Usually if I did, it was for a couple days and away from the mac I went (happily too because I feel completely lost and uncomfortable on them).

So again, I might not be the best person to talk to since I haven't used both religiously at any point in time. Well, except when I was a kid. I used to only use a Mac computer for the first few years and than when I switched to PC I was so much happier. But that was so long ago that it doens't really count.

And you're on the "horrible" Vista. You should really upgrade to 7 as it hogs way fewer resources.

I got to take the iPad home last night. The thing that will make it endlessly entertaining is the same reason people like their iPhones or the iPod Touch... the Aps. Each contains 5 or more minutes of entertainment.

I did notice the iPad froze a lot, I assume with any new device this will be fixed in future software downloads. Hell, my Palm Pre only recently stopped having any issues and that was after it got the software update to the Palm Pre Plus.

I'm actually on Windows 7 at home, which I love. But I had Vista at my job 2 companies ago and used it every day with no issues. My last company I worked at and the current company I work at now are both still on XP and that op system was really rock solid, imo.

7 is super nice though too. Works great at home. Does everything I could ask of it.
