bigruss
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 8, 2012 -> 11:14 AM) Yep. For as much as I hate Apple, Y2HH seems to be on the opposite side of that spectrum. It seems he defends all things Apple and takes it very personally when people speak badly about them. It's pretty obvious that's not the case. Does Y2HH like Apple products? Sure, that's even more obvious. But it's pretty clear that he jumps on people that talk like they know everything that is going on, or everything about a certain tech, when clearly they don't. Sure, that's even more obvious. But it's pretty clear that he jumps on people that talk like they know everything that is going on, or everything about a certain tech, when clearly they don't. This is more accurate. Yes, I like *some* Apple products, mainly their flagship products like the iPhone/iPad, but there are plenty I don't like at all. And even the products I do like, I would be happy to post my criticisms of them, in areas where they deserve criticism, if asked. But it does annoy me to see criticisms based on bad information that are just accepted by people. A perfect example is the comparison of Apple maps to Google maps, without realizing that the Google maps Apple users had is hardly the same as the awesome one available to Android users. If I saw someone say something blatantly false about Android, or Windows, etc...I'd be just as quick to show them that, too...unfortunately, nobody ever posts about those. RockRaines
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 6, 2012 -> 11:31 AM) Oh boy...I'm already a bit concerned about the technology they have for keyless startup now...I have the Audi Advanced Key function...it allows you to open the car and start the car as long as you have the key within a certain distance of the car, basically, on your person. Anyways, a few times when I had the car already running, and then needed to run back in the house and use my housekey to get in, and therefore took the keys with me, I am concerned that someone could actually drive away with the car even without the keys? I've actually gotten back in the car while it is running still, and the dash shows a key with a question mark, as if it doesn't recognize the key is back inside the car, and yet it still allows me to operate the vehicle and drive away... If I told people that the government would require you to carry around a device that not only tracks were you are at all time but also stores all of your personal information and personal preferences about things from music to recipes I think people would think it was a Police state. IN fact its your smart phone. This device very soon will broadcast alot of that data and things like your car will be able to pick up on it and will unlock your car, set all your features and even pick stations it thinks you like. It will also possibly be able to know the temp outside and in your pocket and adjust the climate control. Oh it will also read and present all of your messages and will be able to pull your information to buy things over your car display or audio like flowers, take out etc.
Y2HH
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) Finally I found something about Apple maps that sucks for me, the traffic function sucks ballsack. I agree, the traffic display is terrible. I don't like how it only shows bad areas of traffic with a thin red dotted line, which is harder to see than a solid line, unlike most competitors products that show a solid line of green for good, yellow, orange, red and black for completely stopped. Apple's implementation is very feature limited in this instance.
Y2HH
Further testing on HendrixGate, I was able to reproduce the purple haze by using a super bright LED flashlight and shining the light directly into the camera lens. Outdoors, I was not able to reproduce with the Sun, however. I was having a conversation on IRC about this and trying to test this with others, these are the results. Sorry for the rather big pictures, just trying to compete my testing of this. Using the sun, having it enter the lens at an angle did not produce the effect, here are two different shots at two slightly different angles (I moved the camera around trying to produce it with the sun and was unable to do so): Here you will see the flare (and the flashlight I'm holding while shining at an angle directly into the glass): Same picture but the flashlight was moved ever so slightly so it wasn't shining directly into the glass: Seems like a shortcoming of very thin cameras/cameras that cannot have attachable filters, UV or otherwise. I was also able to produce the same effect on an iPhone4, so this problem has existed for a long time, people just found it now. I wish I had other brand phones to test it with, I wonder, in specific what makes the flare purple? Edited October 8, 2012 by Y2HH
chw42
Google's next Nexus phone has been outed. Word has it that there will be more than just one Nexus phone this time around, but it looks like the LG one will be the first. If Google sells this phone for $400 like they did with the Galaxy Nexus, I'll be be tempted to purchase it. It's a nice upgrade over my Galaxy Nexus (S4 Snapdragon way more power efficient than the TI OMAP AND twice the RAM). SleepyWhiteSox
I love the pure Android experience and am intrigued by the leaked supposed specs so far. Looks good so far too. I just HATE if it'll be non removable battery. Might be a deal breaker for me. Inductive charging is nice and all, but I had it on my Palm pre years ago and would rather have removable battery. Now I'm gonna have to hold out hope that other companies build a Nexus too...with a removable battery along with nice specs.

StrangeSox
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 8, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) I'll have to grab that. I assume finding the game files online is a guick google search? I'm normally pretty tech savvy, but the emulator thing I just never knew about until a month ago. the premium ($4 I think) version also comes with an app called "droidEMUget" or something like that where you browse by platform and download what you want. MAME (???) Sega Master System I tried a ps1 emulator (FPSE or something like that) but could never get it to work right.
Jenksismyhero
Yeah I tried the free version last night, and also got a free N64 emulator too. All of the NES/SNES games I downloaded work great, but not all of the N64 roms work right. Mario Tennis, for example, is really choppy and slow, but Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Ocarina, etc all work with only a few minor bugs. The next step is to get my ps3 controller connected. Unfortunately I didn't buy the dock for my tablet, so there is no USB for me to use. I'm not really sure how i'm supposed to get the thing connected without it. Also, for anyone that wants to use their phone as a hotspot, I found an amazing app called Open Garden. It uses your phones bluetooth to connect to your tablet and gives you internet through your phones data plan. $0 is much better than $20-25/month Verizon wants. StrangeSox
I rooted my way around Verizon's stupidty a while ago, but they got hit by the FCC for locking out third-party tethering/hotspot apps back in the summer.

I thought everyone went away from that because of space concerns. A lot of Android models have removable batteries, including many of their flagship models, as do the Microsoft/Nokia Windows Mobile Luminas. There are a few that don't, however, obviously including the entire iPhone line, as this allows the manufacturer to make the phone smaller/lighter/thinner, without having to expand the size of the phone in other directions to compensate. Thanks, I just figured it was the norm to not have removable batteries, I don't have any friends that have a phone with one or atleast haven't seen one. I get the added benefit of being able to carry a 2nd battery around in case the first one dies, but your phone would still be dead for at least a few seconds, plus you have to remember to bring that battery everywhere. Seems more like a pain that worthwhile, imo.

Motorola still releases what I consider the worst in breed Android models, which makes no sense to me, since Google owns them, it would be the obvious play for Google's flagship Nexus phones to be Motorola branded, maybe with some Google oversight to keep the often overzealous Motorola designers in check. I still have to rate the Samsung GS3 the top tier Android phone, with the HTC OneX or OneX+ coming in a very close second, followed then by the often underpowered Nexus models (underpowered in comparison to the Galaxy's, etc.) I find the Motorola branded phones to feel cheap...but to be sure, I've only messed with them for a short period at phone stores display models. That said, I found their build quality far behind that of the S3 or OneX.

It would have been really nice to be able to buy a new battery, instead of having to rely on someone else to do it. There also is the possibility of advances in battery life that would allow you to use a new battery even with an older phone. Its the same reason that I like having expandable memory. For $25 you can always get another 32 gb.

That was an app you have to add to your phone in order for it to work, which is why it's not very good...it was mostly a gimmick. It's the same reason I find the S3's bump tech to be mostly useless, when better methods of sharing data already exist...if it requires the person to have the same brand/model phone as you, or special software installed on that phone, it makes it far less useful.
