knightni
QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:08 AM) Silly me was using piratebay.org on my gfs laptop and got a real nasty son of a gun virus that kept changing the windows desktop into a red background with the flashing letters "YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED". Ive grown so accustomed to my macbook that i forgot about the importance of anti-virus software on a windows machine needless to say the virus really did a number on the laptop and i had to do a factory reset which made her very highly upset It's called SmitFraud. There are directions to get rid of it - sort of. I ended up removing the file via a spyware removal program, then moving the WINDOWS file that controls the screen saver and background in safe mode. It disabled it, but unless I can overwrite that Windows file, it'll always be in there. Now, I have no screen saver (which you don't really need anyway), and I have no way to access the background through the desktop properties. But, I can still change the background by right clicking on a photo to make it my background.

BigSqwert
Apple's false sense of security... Referring to Apple, Maiffret said,"It's even a little scarier with them because they try to market themselves as more secure than the PC, that you don't have to worry about viruses, etc. Anytime there's been a hacking contest, within a few hours someone's found a new Apple vulnerability. If they were taking it seriously, they wouldn't claim to be more secure than Microsoft because they are very much not. And the Apple community is pretty ignorant to the risks that are out there as it relates to Apple. The reason we don't see more attacks out there compared to Microsoft is because their market share isn't near what Microsoft's is."

Supposedly Apple thinks Flash is an obsolete technology and refuses to operate with it.

G&T
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 07:40 PM) I think they meant a camera flash. Supposedly Apple thinks Flash is an obsolete technology and refuses to operate with it. Apple thinks it's a resource hog that drains battery. But really they know that if you could play Flash games online, you wouldn't pay for games in the app store.

Supposedly Apple thinks Flash is an obsolete technology and refuses to operate with it. I think it's got more to do with the fact that Apple hasn't figured out a way to make money off of it yet. edit: yeah what G&T said. StrangeSox
Exactly why I don't want a device like the iPad, completely controlled by Apple: http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/04/apple-bans-satire/
knightni
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 01:21 AM) Instead of buying an iPad I decided to buy Apple stock and make money off all the people that actually do buy them, since I really don't have much use/desire for one. So far so good. I'm not an Apple fan or hater, but they know how to make money. Apple likes to keep everything closed and make everyone do things through them, and to control everything. Google on the other hand is the opposite of Apple, they want everything to be open and free, and to Apple this seems like insanity but it's been working wonders for Google so far. Google is too expensive to invest in for most people, though. Also, am I the only one that has a Zune and actually likes it? 7 reasons apple shareholders should be cautious
lostfan
Yeah, I didn't think it was going to skyrocket so fast, if I sold now I'd already make like $200 on just a handful of shares and I don't even know if I've had it a full month yet. I was thinking I was going to buy it and hold it for several months and it'd be a steady climb. I think there is still some fuel left on this train though. My dad is the master of it, but I like I think I know a thing or two as well. We have made around 8 grand the past week or so. Our best month was during the winter when we made around $32,000 in a month.
