But there's more to it than just games.

There's:

- texting

- ebook

- web browsing

- email

- calendar/appointments

- music player

- camera/video

- weather

- social media

- notes

- "office" type applications (i.e., word doc, spreadsheet, etc.)

- GPS/Navigation

- banking/finance

And that's just a tip of the iceberg. These things are so much more than phones and that's why their size is being mutated to be better suited for a larger suite of uses.

I dont see how any of those requires me to carry a phone any bigger than my iphone. If I want to edit and review documents I need a better device than even my ipad.

Of course there is no requirement for anything bigger than your iphone to do those things. You also could cut the iphone screen in half and make the same argument. Fact is, other than making phone calls, a larger screen is more desirable for all of the other non-phone uses.

If the average person uses 10-15% of their device time, if that, to actually making phone calls then why focus the physical design to that one aspect?

What if one of my requirements was it has to fit in my pocket?

My phone is bigger than any iphone and fits in every pocket of every garment of clothing I own.

Fit is a relative term. My brothers S3 fits into my pocket, but it's not comfortable.

My note 2 fits in my pocket comfortably. Nothing else can go in there with it though.

Why would you want to put other things in there with your phone though? It'll just scratch the phone up.

I put my phone in the same pocket as my wallet most of the time. Can't with a 5" phone, contrary to what the person above said...they aren't comfortable to me.

You must have a thin wallet (no pun intended).

It's not that big I keep the bare minimum in it, few Ids, few credit cards and insurance info. And maybe a few pictures I haven't updated in years.

A phone a bit bigger than the i5 would be perfect, just not 5". At least not for now, uses tend to change over time and one day that may become a necessity.

My phone always gets left pocket to itself, or maybe with some chapstick.

This. If you have two pockets, why not use both? There's no need to cram everything into one pocket.

Keys.

Okay I don't know about you guys, but I usually carry three things on me in my pants pockets. Keys, wallet, and phone. Unless you have a $500 leather wallet that is prone to scratching, I don't think it's the smartest idea to put your keys with your phone as opposed to your wallet.

I keep them separate, I don't see why this matters. I'm 5'7" 165 or so, I tend to wear form fitting cloths, and 5" phones are simply too big for my pockets. I don't care if you wear wear cargo pants like it's 1997 and tie a plaid jacket around your waist so you can carry a tablet, a phablet, and a phone all in the same pocket. I can't. It's not like I'm making it up to be difficult. I could fit something a bit bigger than my iPhone in my pocket comfortably, but I can't fit something THAT big comfortably. If I can feel it when standing or sitting...it bothers me.
