Working in IT Security, we looked into this yesterday. Essentially, we got to the black screen, but couldn't get to the contacts list.

It's a pretty convoluted process, but you can get it to work without enough tinkering. They'll have this patched early next week (if not sooner), they've already said as much, along with the Exchange bug. Also as IT security, I wouldn't sound alarm bells unless they let this linger on for weeks on end...I'd assume they won't. And this won't be the last time such a zero day bug is found in just about any product people use.

That said, Apple is going to need to be increasingly careful, just as Google has to be...there is a lot of scrutiny on their products right now.

It's not the first time something like this happened with an iphone.

Every software/hardware company needs to be careful these days, the amount of hacking that is going on and the price tag put on information security has really become front and center for companies.

The company I work for dropped RSA for our vpn solution because they got hacked, and one of our conditions for future contracts is liability insurance in case the next vendor gets hacked (which is increasingly harder to get since it's happening so much more now).

I don't even know a wacom stylus is. I need to Google it.

I want this to replace my laptop, desktop and everything associated. The specs on the Surface Pro are impressive, though it's awfully pricy.

Having Wacom digitizer allows for better writing recognition on the screen. Capacitive screens aren't meant for writing. Have you tried writing on an iPad with a stylus? It's not very precise.

Best Buy is confident that its latest policy change will kill "showrooming" in its stores for good.

Starting on March 3, the retailer will price match all local retail competitors, along with 19 "major online competitors" in all product categories, whenever a customer asks for it, the company announced .

“There is no doubt that this new policy ends showrooming for Best Buy customers,” company spokesman Matt Furman told Bloomberg .

Back during the holiday rush, Best Buy announced a temporary price-matching initiative. This is its permanent version.

...

Starting March 3, 2013 Best Buy will price match the current pre-tax price for new, identical, immediately available products from local retail competitors and select designated major online retailers at the time of purchase only. (No subsequent price matching of competitors is allowed)

If Best Buy lowers a price on a product (online or in-store) we will allow price-matching up to 15 days following the original purchase. This applies to all customers including Reward Zone Premier Silver members. Please note: After a transition period for Reward Zone Premier Silver members through April 18, 2013, the 15 day period of the Price Match policy goes into effect (post-purchase – Best Buy only).

There has also been one major change to Best Buy's return policy.

The "Return and Exchange" period is being cut in half to 15 days from its previous length of 30 days. All returns will still require a receipt and I.D., plus Reward Zone Premier Silver members will retain their 60-day return eligibility.

Link. Either a desperate hail mary or something they found was actually effective when they tried it out.

My parents saved about $250 on an AV receiver using the price match. No idea if Best Buy made any money on that purchase. We've bought from them whenever they have a decent price for a while now. On major electronics like TVs, nobody can have sales anymore so we choose them to keep them afloat.

What do you mean no one can have sales anymore?

And it's a good try by Best Buy. You can still save a pretty nice chunk from Amazon by avoiding the sales tax. (Yes, I know, technically you are suppose to report that).

Most major companies set lowest available advertised price, hence why Amazon will typically hide a price until you add it to the cart.

Whoever designed the new HTC phone should be fired after it sells like crap.

A logo between two capactive buttons? No multi-tasking button? A earpiece almost the width of the phone?

I used to like HTC's designs, but they went way out there with this One and it looks awful.

I generally buy from Best Buy or other brick and mortar stores. I like to know that there is someone who is going to have to deal with me if my product doesnt work right.

Amazon saves you tax and has ridiculously awesome return policies. If I am going brick and mortar I am going Costco because of their lifetime return policy.

Are those Best Buy Mobile stores popping up around the country yet? I've seen at least one up here, but I know they try things out around here first since they're based in Richfield.

As the name suggests, they're stand-alone stores that only do mobile phones.

There's been one in Yorktown Mall (Lombard) for like 3 years.

Was it your most expensive vending machine purchase of all time?

Had to be. I was so bored in the airport (I spend half my week in airports) and I forgot my headphones. So I ponied up the 300 bucks or whatever for the On-ear beats. They are pretty nice on airplanes though.

They look really nice, but if you judge on sound quality alone, you can do way better at the price.

Thats what people say, but they are just fine for listening on the plane. I'm not mixing up any beats at home or anything like that.

The age of no internet sales tax appears to be coming to an end for Amazon.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns...,0,495573.story

We all knew they'd eventually run out of states they could run too and ship out of. It was one of the main advantages of using them. I love Amazon, but I hate mail order. I really hate it.

It's so much easier to go to a local Best Buy/H.H. and return a broken or malfunctioning item than it is to box it up and ship it back.

Printing out a label and leaving it downstairs is supremely easy. Much easier than driving,

Parking and waiting.

You have to make sure the right people pick up that package your leaving downstairs. ;) It's much more of a pain in the ass than you're leading onto here...highly glossed over issues with mail order. It's more than just printing out a label. It's boxing it up securely, then it's waiting for it get shipped...then it's waiting for it to get looked at...then it's waiting for a return shipment...and hoping that return shipment isn't broken, too.

I could have been to the store and back again with a full replacement in that amount of time 50 times over...if not more.

The advantage to Amazon was the pricing and the tax evasion. Now that they're losing those advantages via price matching at local stores and taxes being charged, I find it far less convenient. The rest of it's nothing but disadvantages no matter how much you gloss it over here.
