From what I understand, Apple doesn't believe touch screens on desktops or laptops are ergonomically-sound features....and I think they are right...who wants to hold their arm at that angle for any period of time when you could just use the keyboard/mouse/trackpad? I think touchscreens are brilliant for a device that is handheld or meant to be laid parallel to the floor/desk, but not a screen that is perpendicular to the surface...gravity doesn't agree with that very well.

Yeah, I tend to agree that having a touchscreen on a laptop that can't transform into a tablet isn't all that practical. I mean, it is obviously better to have the touchscreen as opposed to not having one, but if a laptop doesn't have a touchscreen, it's not a deal-breaker.

This is why I think the Windows 8 convertible laptops have potential. You can use it as a laptop and a tablet when you want it. The biggest problem I have with the iPad or any other tablet is that it can't match a PC in terms of multitasking. Having a tablet and laptop in one solves that issue.

And also I think Apple wants to sell iPads and MacBooks. If they integrate those together, they lose sales.

To me that has more to do with not wanting to clean a monitor or screen of that size/shape...wiping down a phone or tablet is pretty simple, not only because of their relatively small screen size, but the shape of the device makes it easy...but a computer monitor or a laptop screen? No thanks. I don't like when people even come close to touching my monitors, including myself.

If you can clean an iPad, you can clean a 13 inch monitor.

The shape of the ipad is what makes it easy to clean, not simply the size. I have a 13" laptop now, and I already hate having to clean the screen.

There has been a spot on my laptop screen for a year. There is a spot above the word spot right now on the computer I'm on. I'm not about clean it and that's not because I'm an untidy or lazy person. It's just a pain in the ass to clean it and it's not interfering with anything important.

It also depends on what kind of screen you have. I hate cleaning my laptop's matte LCD. It's good in the sense I don't get glare, but it's so much easier to clean glossy LCDs.

I usually have to use water to clean the crap off my laptop's screen, which is a hassle. But if it had a glossy screen, I probably wouldn't need to do that.

Theres a time and a place for both. I travel half of my life and do basic functions on my ipad, but for real work I have to bring out my macbook air. I primarily work from my imac at home with 3 26in screens. I couldnt live without it.

This is where Microsoft really had some foresight with the Surface. Why run a tablet OS when you can run a full version of Windows? Why does a tablet have to be an underpowered, giant phone that doesn't make calls and runs a phone's OS? A tablet should be a mini-computer with outs that make it a real computer (usb, hdmi, expandable storage). In the last couple weeks, I've changed my thought process from a giant phone/tablet to a tablet/mini computer. The surface has the hardware to be the only machine you need. You use it on the run and go home, plug it into a monitor and it's a desktop. You can wifi to your TV, and it's a laptop. Is it possible to partition a Surface to run Android too? Think about it.

Also, I just read that MBP's with retina display and Air's don't have expandable RAM? Obviously they're not underpowered. Nothing really needs 16 GB's of RAM, but wtf? You should be able to do whatever the hell you want with your $1,300 computer, right? Sorry for the rant. I'm troubleshooting issues with my PC and came across that.

That's the case with a lot of slim laptops these days.

The more you know.

I also learned that you can take your DVD drive out and replace it with an SSD to run dual HD's. That's pretty sweet. Who actually uses a DVD drive anymore? I haven't for years.

I think that only applies to Lenovo laptops. A lot of slim laptops don't even have optical drives anymore. It adds too much bulk.

You can do it with Mac's too. These DJ nerds that I talk to all do it. It's one of the reasons they still run all Apple's. I've found that people are looking for reasons to keep running OSX. It just isn't good enough anymore. It's kind of crazy. Everyone is running windows computers now. It's like it was, but in reverse.

Just popped for the 70-inch Sharp LCD...my birthday present to myself :)

Ordered a fairly expensive mount from Amazon (no way I am going to mount this sucker on a $40 mount). Going to put it above my brick gas fireplace that I have not used once since moving in here 18 months ago.

Yay me!

Mind if I ask how much you spent on the TV?

Does anyone actually like Windows 8? It's an interesting concept and I think they're basically going in the direction that computing is heading, but the mobile-ish interface has got to get frustrating for certain tasks.

I like it. I can get to things I need a lot faster from the tiled menu than the usual start menu. It's not really that much different than 7 other than that. I'm not sure what tasks would be more difficult on 8 than 7?

240 hz? Let me know how you like it with sports. When I move to a bigger place I am going to have either another living room, media room or basement and I will have to upgrade to something like this.

Yeah...that's pretty solid for an LCD...these aren't as high quality as some of the smaller Panasonic and Pioneer plasmas available, but this is about as good as it gets unless you want to go into the $5-10k range.

My fam wants to upgrade for the basement, and that's the TV they're looking at, curious to hear your feedback.

Unfortunately, it doesn't arrive until March 11, because I also ordered a fridge and dishwasher and that is the first date they can ship all three together. But as soon as I get it up and have a few days with it, I will post my thoughts...
