I am totally dumbfounded as to what is wrong with the placement of the power button

It's annoying as f***. It's always been on the right... I'm right handed but I hold it in my left so my finger sits on the other side where the power button ISN'T, I go up there to press the button and it's not there. I've had the phone since launch and still not really used to it.

This is actually pretty funny. Your phone would have rebooted to the bootloader every time afterwards had you not fixed it.

Yeah I don't know why I didn't think of that first. Could've skipped a lot of steps.

It's kinda like, have you ever gone to play NBA Live after playing NBA 2K for a long time? You find out the button you think is the pass button and it's actually the shoot button and you end up heaving 70-foot shots?

LOL yes

or switching from Halo to COD

Gotta agree with you on this point...how often do people actually use their damned power buttons.

I reboot my phone maybe once a month, and it's the only thing I use the power button for. I think I can find the "other side" it's placed on after a week of use. That's like complaining that not ever PC has the power button in the same spot. Who cares...so long as it has one, take the five f***ing seconds and learn where it is. :P

You don't use it to lock it?

Eh not really, sometimes I guess. But how hard is it to learn the new location of a random button? I just don't get the big complaint.

For a long phone like the HTC One, it should really be on the side of the phone. It's easier for everyone to press it.

It's not the location, it's the convenience of the location given the size of the phone.

I don't get it either, I was just saying

I don't like the idea of it being on the side. Very easy to accidentally press.

On the upper right side of the phone?

It's pretty much impossible to accidentally press it. I've never had an issue with it and the last 4 phones I've owned had it on the side.

Oh cause your left handed. Yeah, that makes sense.

But still unless your hands are big, it's really hard to accidentally press it.

My volume rockers are on the left side of the phone and I never accidentally press them.

LG just announced the G2. 5.2 inch screen, but about the size of the Galaxy S4 and almost no bezels around the phone (remember that convo about bezels not existing Y2HH? It's about that time). The power and volume buttons are on the back of the phone, which is interesting from a design perspective, but also weird from a user perspective. I guess we'll see how the it functions in the real-world.

It's also the first phone with a Snapdragon 800, clocked at 2.26 GHz. 3000 mAH battery, so it should last a good 20 hours, even with the 1080P screen and the beast processor.

This is a incredible piece of hardware and there is a chance the next Nexus phone will be based off of it.

They're starting to make bad design choices in order to accommodate these super thin bezels, such as moving power and volume buttons the the back. Having power/volume rockers on the edge of the phone makes it easy to reach into your pocket and find them, for example, when you're at the gym.

Reviewers are saying the move of the buttons to the back actually works well because its a phablet sized device, but I don't know...seems awkward and something you'll have to feel around for. Just doesn't seem like a necessary design change, especially considering I use my volume up button as a camera shutter, which is extremely useful.

-- Not a big fan of the ugly plastic back.

++ Good choice on LG for using an IPS display.

++ Screen looks very good.

I think moving the buttons to the back has more to do with them trying to make the device thinner.

Probably allowed them to cut the bezel as thin as they did. I'm just a big fan of using the physical volume buttons for my camera shutter...I think having to tap a virtual icon on the screen when trying to take a picture is terrible, it causes the phone to move, etc.

One of the really cool features it seems to have is Guest Mode, not sure if this is an LG thing or not, even though I wouldn't hand my phone to a kid at any point, but I could see that being quite useful for some.

And I hate plastic phones in this price point, I really do.

I still like the HTC One the best when it comes to Android.

There's restrictive user profiles in Android 4.3 now, but that's tablets only ATM.

AnandTech's hands on says the back buttons feel fairly natural after a few minutes. I don't think LG would have done what they did had it been extremely uncomfortable. That's a product-killing fault if it is.

My only concern is...does this phone lay flat when you put it on its back? The power button bulges out a bit.

I also wouldn't say all plastic phones are bad. The glossy polycarbonate on this phone and Samsung phones are fairly annoying. They're prone to smudges and feel weird after holding the phone for a while. But the plastic used on devices like the Moto X are fine with me.

I've not held a Moto X, but I've held a Galaxy S3 and S4, and they feel like bendy crap to me. They feel like childrens toys, and though that shouldn't bother me, it does. I'm an anti-case person when it comes to phones. Buy beautiful, light, thin phone, cover it in monsterous case. No thanks. Just make the damn thing feel solid, and by solid, I don't mean heavy, either.

I went to the verizon store to check out the other devices since Apple is making me switch my docking connectors anyway with the new iphone (morons). Those Samsung phones feel cheap but look great. Such a disconnect in design vs function.

I had to switch my doc connectors a while ago now, and the new ones (although still proprietary) are much better than the old ones, less prone to breaking the phone, and easier to use, too. It's a relatively minor inconvenience.

I wish there was a law where all power connectors on devices has to follow the same standard, much like wall sockets. Even with USB, I must have 30 f***ing USB chargers, micro, mini, super mini, super duper micro mini...f***ing assholes.

I"ve had the one for a few months now. Never thought about the power button issue, but then again, i have normal sized hands that can hold things.

All the experience of switching phones has done is convince me that iphone 4 was probably apples greatest version to date and I miss it, and that you guys are crazy to have such heated opinions about the marginal benefits over each phone.

That said I like the 6-second video thing on the one, should be fun now that instagram can upload videos.

They did do this by 2012, all phones have micro USB except Apple products, who resisted it so they can keep that revenue stream going. No matter though, since now instead of charging 8 bucks for chargers (for something that costs pennies to make in China, mind you) they charge 30 bucks for a charger and a car charger, since you don't need a charger every time you buy a phone anymore. Fothermuckers.
