The audio on my ipad went out yesterday and no clue what happened.

Was FaceTiming with my parents in AZ. It started to go in and out than finally just went out.

Seems like a common problem but I can't get the sound back at all. All levels are up. WTF

It's possible your headphone jack is dirty and it's triggering the headphone unit to activate (sending the sound out the unused headphone jack, instead of to the speakers).

Clean it with rubbing alcohol and a qtip.

You could also try inserting a pair of headphones into the jack, and quickly unplugging them, see if it kicks headphones on/off.

It works with headphones but not without. Weird

When you unplug the headphones, is the image/graphic on the screen depicting that they're no longer plugged in? Like plug in the headphones and do volume up/down, it should say "headphones", when you remove the headphones, it should no longer read headphones when doing volume up/down.

If it's not saying that (as in, it doesn't think headphones are plugged in even when they're not), the speaking is having problems, and you can try a full reset/erase all and then restore it from backup to see if that fixes it, OR bring it in as something is probably wrong with the speaker physically.

Although I have all Samsungs, thinking about pulling the trigger on this for my basement:

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-KDL-70R550A-70-...=I26T2F9Y52R9CT

Sony's are still respected right?

Sony is still great, but you can probably get that set for 1000$ less if you kill off the useless 3D and "smart" features. You're appletv is smarter than anything they can possibly include to make that tv smart, so paying for smart tv's is a waste.

I bought my last plasma with NO smart features on it and it cost 999$, the smart version was 1699$. My 90$ appletv is smarter.

Hmm, let me see what I can find. I need something at least 70 in for that basement area.

I'll look at it. Need something big but still like advanced functions like local dimming.

I have a similar model but in the 240 hz...very pleased with it overall, although I am not one of those people that really digs in to the advanced settings all that much or anything.

I usually look for the advanced config online and then dont touch my sets. Works pretty great for them all so far.

projector?

I think i'm leaning that way for my next "big" tv purchase. We have two set-ups, the everyday TV watching during the week upstairs (40 inch) and the finished basement home theater area downstairs for movies and sports (currently a 55 in). It'd be nice to get 100 inches up on the wall. I just don't know about the brightness without spending a fortune, but it has been a few years since I looked into them.

The one thing that worries me about that is how do I hook up my components? Do I have to run cables into the ceiling etc? Seems like a ton of work.

You could use wiremold to cover the cables without tearing into the ceiling, but if your floor joists are running the right way (i.e. you could run all the cabling between two joists, not having to go through a bunch), it wouldn't be too much work. Only a little bit more than running power and cabling up behind a wall-mounted TV.

I bet Rock would be willing to pay you $300 to do it for him ;)

Yep, that's the easiest way. And get one of these: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-Dep...56005/100660167 It'll save you a ton of time/frustration.
