I pre-ordered my first iPhone yesterday early in the morning. Everything looks set. We always had whatever was free with the plan but we felt we would use the features on the iphone so we are splurging on them. I'm very excited.

I built a new computer yesterday, pretty happy with the results. Haven't had time to game too much yet, but it runs L4D2 awesomely. I'll probably try out MW2 at some point tonight, assuming the download finishes.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T

Mobo: ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO

RAM: 4 GB DDR3 1600

GFX: XFX Radeon HD 5770

My old machine served my purposes well, but the motherboard started to crap out and became incredibly unstable. Needless to say, it's nice to have a new machine :P

The MacMini got an update. Thinner, lighter, incremental upgrades... oh and a $100 price bump. So, one of the most overpriced computers on the market just got a price increase.

Apple is really starting to piss me off. So, now the cheapest Apple computer you can buy is $700.

Android to get major UI update:

The team more or less has the core features they want at this point, say our sources, although more tweaks are certainly coming. But Google wants to put an end to the desire of handset manufacturers and carriers to add their own UI layer on top of Google – things like Sense, Motoblur, Ninjablur, etc.

Most of the time their shells aren’t all that great anyway (see HTC EVO), and they tend to slow down the device.

Google is focusing the bulk of its efforts on the user experience for the upcoming Gingerbread release to counter this. And they want to get the Android experience closer to the iPhone.

It’s unlikely that third parties will ever completely resist the temptation to meddle to differentiate their products and to get more control over the user. But Google’s goal is to make those “skins” as pointless as possible.

That’s a big goal, particularly since Android is a flexible operating system that is designed to handle a variety of hardware options. When you don’t lock down the hardware it’s very hard to make the UI perfect. Which is why Apple’s Macs, with locked down hardware, have always been a better experience than the hugely hardware-flexible Windows operating system.

They arent as backordered as they tell you, my gf has already had two in the last few weeks. If you do to an independent store they prob have them in stock. IN Yorktown they get several a day.

By ordering online I got $100 off (in addition to the regular discounts for upgrading and staying with VZW, etc.), to make the phone free. I probably could have gone into a store and convinced them to give me the online discount, but I can't say for sure, and I HATE shopping in stores. I do everything possible online. And I'm not in a huge hurry, so waiting a week is really not something that concerns me (they also ship via overnight for free).

Of course, all the Journalism schools I looked at recently require using Macs.

Always look into discounts through the school. Many schools get pretty sizable discounts on computers and software. Hell, my law school gets a 20% discount on AT&T service.

See, I dont think the laptops and even the iMacs are TOO over priced. But they are trying so hard to make everything as small as possible that they are making the MacMini overpriced for a desktop. It's basically a laptop with it's monitor, keyboard, and mouse (trackpad) cutoff. Laptop components are more expensive than desktop.

It just "happens" to be the day Verizon is announcing Droid X. hmmm.....

I don't think they are releasing it at the stores early. I think it just came out of China earlier than expected and so the individual West Coast shipments may be a bit ahead of schedule.

New iPhone software is live!

Don't even bother upgrading an iphone 3G with the new IOS 4 software. It is a colossial waste of time. You'll need at least an iphone 3Gs for all of the cool new features to work. The only difference I see is the ability to group programs into folders and ipod playlist stuff.

Thankfully the iphone 4 will be here Thursday morning.

Yeah, it didn't seem to do much to my 3G either...I tried to find the usual video which explains the features of the update, but couldn't find it...

Adobe Systems announced it has released the mobile version of Flash Player 10.1 to its platform partners, and the media player will "soon" arrive on Android 2.2-ready phones.

I have a Motorola phone (so it has Motoblur), how can I tell which version I have?
