Out of curiosity, who knows anything about Lync? Besides being a message program, does it have any other functions, such as keystroke tracking? Someone told me this, but I am not finding anything that verifies it.

I hope not :)

Yea I've never heard of that functionality with it.

Yeah dont you guys have that rolled out? Just hit up the lync admin ;)

I've dont large scale integrations and rollouts of O365 with the lync client and I've never seen that, but they are always changing the platform. They are switching the entire thing over to SAML from WS-Fed kind of silently.

That would mean I would have to talk to the collaboration team, I didn't need that in my Monday

It's amazing the amount of stuff going to SAML these days, it's really interesting seeing it's presence grow.

SAML, OIDC/OAuth and API's are all I see.

Anyone know why my new 32 GB Micro SDHC card Class 10 is failing to show my music on my phone? I copied all my pictures and music on to it, but my phone only sees the pictures. All the music got thrown in a file called "LOST.dir". I just did a quick format of the card and am trying again, but I'm wondering if it just may be because I bought a cheap SD card online instead of getting a Sandisk.

Goddamn working in IT can be frustrating, an emergency change of mine to reboot a hung server got denied by a sr leader because the test/implementation plan wasn't good enough. It's a damn reboot, how the f do you test that? And implementation plan? Start -> Restart server.

Didn't really know where to put this, just needed to vent.

Make you sure document all of that as well.

You would probably like working in a smaller company some day, a little more freedom.

Yea, problem/change management has been a chore over the last year because we've had a lot out issues IT wise (some freak incidents, some really bad planning/architecture, some on outsourcing to offshore and losing a lot of knowledge).

But this one was really just on one sr mgr who is really just a pain in the ass, I'm sure he was with his boss when he got the request for approval and wanted to make some show about it. He's a flat out terrible manager, knows his stuff for his area, but terrible manager.

That sounds awful. My current client (who all of you would instantly recognize) is the worst I've dealt with regarding that sort of thing. There are like 10 different teams that each have their own little responsibility. Even the simplest restart causes a lot of headache.

I keep telling them they are wasting time and money on personnel, and that they could streamline things. And while they agree with me, they just say it won't change because "that's how it has always been." Those are some of the worst words any company can say.

As for Lync, I dislike it a lot. Why can't I copy and paste normally? Is it just the version we use, or does everyone have that issue? And why doesn't Microsoft fix it?

LOL, so true, do oyu get the weird bug where it copys something like 4 times into the chat? Love that.

Do you have the client or the web based version?

The short answer is lync is built like dogs***.

It amazes me how many IT departments operate to the detriment of, or at the expense of, the companies they work for.

I doubt anyone could help, but it's worth a try. So my university has a strong stance against violating copyright laws, torrents, etc. Anyways, I was watching a movie last Monday night and I passed out. Tuesday morning I grabbed my laptop and brought to school and when I opened it up I still had the torrent host (Popcorn-Time) open. All of a sudden I wasn't able to get onto the wifi and realized my account has probably been barred as a result of using Popcorn-Time. So I called the IT department, they confirmed that was the issue and I set up an appointment with the assistant dean. She says I have to remove all torrenting programs from my computer or else I could receive a penalty. The thing is, I've had Popcorn-Time on my computer all year I just haven't opened it up while using the school wifi.

Am I safe to keep the program on my computer or could the outsourced internet security agency pick it up when the application is inactive?

They wouldn't have access to your laptop, just the traffic to/from it while on the school's network. So as long as it wasn't doing anything, then you would be fine.

It's really both sided, the company needs to view IT as a way to grow business, not just to keep it running. And that's a hard sell, as nothing you do in IT will actually make the company money unless you are selling IT services, at best it saves or enables the making of more money, but it is almost never direct. Thus IT can really get viewed as a way to just sustain business, not really enable it.

Also, there are so many projects that get green lighted by execs that just suck up money and give IT and their ROI a terrible brand.

I am working with a company now whose IT department refused to greenlight project, despite the fact that if they don't get this done before a certain deadline, they won't be able to report capital levels to FINRA and the SEC.

I don't see how they could see the software on your PC w/o you accessing the Internet with it. With that said, get yourself a VPN. They won't know what you're doing.

Here is the better answer, is whatever punishment from the school worth torrenting?

Im going to say, unlikely. Just a random guess but school tuition >>>>> paying for a movie.

I still have my iPhone 4S (3G), which I plan to replace. But in the meantime, I put on the new OS version a couple months ago, and coincidentally (not) we are suddenly going from typically using 75% of our data to 125%. Two months straight. Doesn't help that the friggin web developer kit that ALL iPhone browsers must use insists on reloading a web page every. Friggin. Time. you go back to that page, which is an immense design flaw that drives me nuts.

Anyone who has an iPhone 6 - does the browser kit behind the native or other browsers still have that idiotic flaw?

The reloading of tabs occurs if the device is out of memory (not storage), but actual RAM. Because Apple cuts corners on only putting 1GB of memory in their phones (2GB exists in the iPad air2), whether it be for their battery power excuse or not, that's why browsers often reload tabs. The entire OS and every background task on iOS devices is running off of 1GB of memory...which while impressive...it's past time they up it to 2gb.
