And the cord has officially been cut.

The parents are now slinging it with sling tv. They have the sling blue package with the news package and the hollywood extra package (so they can watch turner classic movies) for $34.97/mo.

I downloaded the Apple TV Remote app for their phones as the remote that comes with Apple TV is a bit small.

I just spent a few hours teaching them how to use it...

Dad loves youtube.

What exactly is SLing TV? A cable like company but a streaming service or something else?

Yeah, it is owned by Dish. But it's streaming of live tv channels.

They have 3 main packages which include different combinations of your most popular cable networks like tbs/fx/amc/espn/food/hgtv/cnn and then some other networks like nbc/fox and their cable networks. You can also add the premium movie channels as well.

It's pretty awesome if you watch a lot of basic cable like my parents do.

I'n intrigued but the fact I watch so much sports scares me that that could take a hit. Like could I log into Watch ESPN?

Sling is just an app you use, so I don't see why you couldn't do whatever it is you are doing already.

Their packages do offer several regional sports networks, as well as ESPN, and NBC/Fox and their sports networks, so while it isn't exactly DirecTV, it does offer you quite a few options.

Ya I have sling with ESPN, ESPN 2. Theyre adding NFL Network and Red Zone channel too, but Red Zone will be in a separate $5 sports package. One turnoff I found is it only allows one stream at a time so you cant share it.

Im really interested in Playstation Vue since it has so many more channels, just not sure if its worth getting a PS4 for yet.

Look up Playstation Vue. I just got a free trial and it is awesome. The $45 package has tons of sports options perfect for college football. NFL Network and Red Zone are going to be added soon as well

With Playstation Vue you can get Amazon Fire TV (not the stick) and it would work perfectly. You can also cast it but it works a lot better with Amazon Fire or a PS4

That sucks, I already have a fire stick with Kodi on it. I wonder if theyre gonna add it to the stick at some point since they have it for firetv.

You can use the stick but people have said it is a lot better using the fire or PS4. But my dad just got it as well and he said it has been working well and he can use his remote with it so maybe you should try it out. They give a free 7 day trial and you can get the best package they have

You can also just get the Playstation TV to play Vue on. Costs $42 on Amazon.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ok so I have a FLICKR account on my phone that I had created with a gmail account last year. All of my photos upload from my camera roll on my iphone to this FLICKR account so then I can delete off of the phone to save room. I just recently decided to view my account from my pc and see that YAHOO has taken over and I cant login with a gmail account from that pathway. How the hell am I supposed to get around this? I still have it on my phone which has stayed logged in since I created it with a gmail account but if I become logged out from my phone I dont know if I will be able to get back in to view that account any longer.

I got the 6 two years ago so when did the stop charging the $200 and start charging $30 a month. Don't like this.

Bluetooth headphones rule. It's annoying when I forget to charge and they run out of juice as I get to gym but that's my problem.

The cheaper BT headphones dont hold a charge very well I found out on a flight after I bought them at the bookstore, but I have a couple of decent pairs and I really really like them. I also broke the connector off in the jack while on a flight so I cant use regular ones with my ipad anymore.

You don't like Bluetooth?

Sure I do. In my car.

I have an amazing pair of noise cancelling headphones that aren't bluetooth. There isn't anything else, aside from "slight water resistance", another megapixel, and the missing headphone jack to go 7.

Mine are definitely a cheap version. May have the first item on my Xmas list now.

I didn't know everyone was still so attached to headphone jacks, I've been doing everything wirelessly for a couple of years now.

A couple people have refuted this to me, saying Bluetooth quality is not as good as wired headphone quality, but that's really not what's going on here. The vast majority of people upset at Apple are not people listening to high-bitrate, lossless audio on a pair of $200 headphones, they are probably streaming music on a pair of cheap headphones and can't tell the difference (but like pretending they can).

Anecdotally, I have separate sets of wired and bluetooth headphones that cost about the same and the bluetooth ones are just not as reliable. Lots of cutting out as I walk around the city.

I'm sure as you move up in price point it's a different story. I would not buy a phone without a headphone jack but I'm not an Apple guy to begin with, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
