I want Gingerbread on my Evo for the music syncing abilities alone. Marko, will this happen? You'd think with the Evo still selling like mad we'd get the upgrade.

Odds are you can hack it on there already, otherwise you have to wait for Sprint to release it, if they decide to do so. Other concern is that the hardware is robust enough to handle the 2.3 requirements (and I believe the EVO is), so right now it's a matter of waiting on them to get it done -- if they get it done.

Bingo.

There are gingerbread ROMs already available if you rooted your phone.

Yeah, but those don't support GPS and other critical functions. I want a legit release.

Are you rooted?

From what I hear, Cyanogen will be releasing a new stable version any day now with Gingerbread and working 4G.

They already have GPS working. HDMI out will be the only thing left on their list.

Also, the 4G coding they did is going to be better than what HTC implemented. The guys working on the code, from the ground up, noted that the HTC coding for 4G was pretty awful and it should work better when cyanogen implements it. And once they do, any AOSP ROM will be able to us it such as MUIU which is the iphone looking ROM.

Yeah I'll be all over that once they come out with the new version. Just so you know it's not a Sense based ROM. Not sure if you knew that. HTC Sense apps and widgets won't work on it. But all of that HTC stuff is bloat that makes the OS run slower as well as take up way too much internal memory. If you love their widgets like the clock you could always find comparable replacements on the market such as Beautiful Widgets.

Yeah, I don't run HTC Sense anyway. LauncherPro + Beautiful Widgets.

But it's still on your OS with lots of HTC crap running in the background.

Or are you on an AOSP ROM?

Nah, it's still there. I'll have to take care of that crap. I worry about bricking this wonderful piece of technology.

I've rooted my phone, but never found tips on what to do so after rooting it. How do I put a different ROM on it? I might just unroot my phone.

No don't unroot! There are a ton of threads on XDA to help you along. Which phone do you have?

This is from the EVO subforum but should apply to any android phone.

My iPad was not syncing to iTunes yesterday and would not accept a charge well. I tried all the common fixes, including uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, restarting the iPad, etc., but to no avail. Made an appointment with the Genius Bar (the nerve of them to call it that), and took in my iPad this morning.

Apparently the dock connector was bad and so they just gave me a new iPad no questions asked, since it was still under the manufacturer's 1-year warranty.

Pretty happy with the service and outcome.

Apparently, I'm wishing "Merry Xmas" to all of my email contacts by sending them Spam advertising $1.49 Viagra and other lovely items. (I have AT&T internet). However, Norton Antivirus, Spybot, and Malwarebytes scans are now coming up clean (a few days ago, Malwarebytes identified a trojan dropper that I hoped was the culprit, but spamming has continued after its removal). There also appears to be a relatively new "Registry Mechanic" (PC Tools) icon on my home screen that I don't remember putting there and am suspicious of.

My computer knowledge is basically dick. Helpful suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

Lavasoft ad-aware is another one worth trying.

If you're desperate and you know when it happened...WIndows system restore should have a restore point 4-5 days ago that you can revert your computer to without losing documents, that might kill it also. Start Menu, programs, accessories, System Restore...pick a restore point you're sure was before it happened.

Is there a way to get it back? Do I just use UnrEVOked again?

Unless you already lost root there's no reason to accept the OTA update. Any update provided by Sprint will be provided in rooted format to flash within a day or two.

I kept it rooted and just read all of XDA. So now I know what I'm doing. I'm glad too. My battery alone lasts a lot longer without calibration.

Sweet. Definitely keep them bookmarked. You'll learn a ton about your phone from that forum. And don't be scared to ask questions. You'll get them answered much quicker than hoping for me to be logged on in Soxtalk. :P

Oh and BTW, the v7 kernel in this thread (2nd post) is a must have. Definitely a major improvement for the battery. I went with the SBC for Netarchy's CFS More Aggressive 4.1.9.1.

Thanks man. Phone looks cooler, is much more customized to my liking, and feels even more powerful.

HTC Thunderbolt with LTE for Verizon pictured ahead of CES unveiling?

12-28-10-htcthunderboltdroidlife.jpg

So, that lovely 4.3-inch LTE smartphone with Android for Verizon we've been calling the Mecha and the Droid Incredible HD? Looks like it might come to market as the Thunderbolt, so says Droid Life -- and we tend to put some weight on the rumor considering that they've just run twelve leaked shots of the thing. As you can see, this is clearly Verizon's head-on answer to the EVO 4G, featuring similar stylings and, in all likelihood, an LTE modem swapped in for the EVO's WiMAX one. Sure looks like that "controlled" leak from a few days back, doesn't it? More on this at Verizon's press conference next week, we presume.
