When 4G gets released let me know. The 3G plus crap that is being marketed as 4G is just a gateway drug to the real thing.

Sure it might be misnamed but it's still WAY faster than 3G.

It's going to be so weird not having this opportunity with any future offspring. Some of my favorite moments as a kid were when Dad would take me to the video store and I'd be looking through the NES / Super Nintendo titles and then "discovering" old comedies... all with the smell of popcorn in the background.

Blockbuster (and other local establishments like Video Outlet, etc) were a staple of my youth, and they are all but extinct now.

Theres some other bits and pieces, nothing all that great other than a faster safari (I dont think its slow anyway)

How are you doing that with your iphone now???

I think this iPad will attract a lot of the skeptics that held off from buying the original, but won't convince too many current owners to go out and slap down another several hundred dollars. I still love the original enough that I certainly am not motivated to get this version.

This is sort of similar to owning the iPhone and then holding off on when the 3G and 3GS version came out, but being convinced to go get the Iphone 4...I'll wait for that type of upgrade before I replace this current iPad.

I'm really not an Apple fanboy, but Apple really lends itself to my trades (music, graphic design, video editing). After the MacBookPro updates of last week, I plan on picking up a 15" model with some internal upgrades to RAM (want 8gigs) and HDD speed (need 7200rpm), but this new ipad might actually have convinced me that it could be a useful addition to my technological world. The internal upgrades that I want to do to are about $350 cheaper than they were previously priced at. Would I be crazy to use that $350 to snag an iPad at the same time as a new MBP?

I'm imagining a set-up where I'm streaming MLB.tv from my iPad either set up next to my computer (if there's a White Sox game on the TV), or connected to my television (when there's no White Sox Game on), all while being ultra-productive on my new MacBookPro, and keeping my current MacBook Pro (generation 1, revision 1) around as a media center or a travel computer.

Anyone think this would be overkill? Anyone care to play devil's advocate the same way my lady claims she is?

Full disclosure: I also have an iPhone 3Gs for when I'm out and about, would get a 16gb wi-fi only ipad.

^^^ This.

I don't even really understand the hate on any end of this argument, it's silly. Be it Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc...does it really matter? The ONLY thing that matters is the devices you purchase/use do the things you want them to do, look the way you want them to look, etc.

I have zero "product" loyalty. For now, I prefer Apples IOS products (iPhone/iPad), however, that can change in an instant the second I believe a superior product arrives that is as simple to use so long as it does everything I require. Right now, I do not believe Android based tablets have 'arrived', the Xoom is nice, but Honeycomb (Android 3.0) is beta quality at the moment, it's still not optimized, and you can tell it's a first release product, despite holding a 3.x version number. That said, it will undoubtedly get better with every subsequent update...which is good for the consumers on all ends of the equation, whether you use Microsoft, Apple or products running Android.

Use what you like to use...you do NOT have the qualify why to anyone, either. Until the Fandroid or Applefanboy is buying your devices for you, they get and deserve ZERO say in what you like to use.

I'm a Google fanboy, not because of Android, but because Google makes life easier for me in so many ways. Then when I got a Droid, it just sealed the deal.

That's like being a fan of big brother, in a way. ;)

Don't be a fanboy/girl, of any company...ever. It makes you a lemming.

Honestly, though, use what works best for you. I hate Google as a company, because I think they're beyond sneaky and underhanded with their repeated "oops" mistakes, that are anything but oops. That said, I believe their search engine remains the best, therefore I use it.

Not a big fan of Chrome, though, I've used it twice, on 5.x and on the most recent 9.x release, but the trust just isn't there...their broken addon API annoys me, too, as they're purposefully gimping it to prevent addons like NoScript from being possible, again, showing the hypocritical nature of Google and their pseudo 'open' bulls***. I understand it's their only profit making model and their business relies on it, but they need to cut the 'do no evil' crap in that case. Iron, a derivative of Chrome is only available on Windows for the latest releases, and rips out of all of the Google's self-serving spyware included in every copy of Chrome...that's right ladies, they're spying on you to a level never before seen! I'm sure they'll get in trouble for logging information they shouldn't be and when caught, they'll say "oops", but they'll keep the data they mined anyway.

Take my advice, don't be a fanboy of any company unless that company is paying you a salary and helping to feed you and yours.

In the mean time, use whatever you like the most, no matter who makes it.

Im betting its the same camera on the iPhone4, which is awesome. If they just slapped the 3G camera on there you know that will be another improvement in the redesign.

Apparently it's not even as good as the 3G camera.

It seems impossible for Apple to put a decent camera into anything but the iPhone, and despite many hopes, both cameras in the iPad 2 are about as rudimentary as you could get without having to load a roll of film in there.

In fact, the iPad 2's camera has more in common with the low-res camera in the iPod Touch than it does to the rather excellent one in the iPhone 4.

The specs for the iPad's rear-facing camera only lists one number: 720p. That should mean 1280 x 720 pixels, which gives a megapixel figure of 0.92, clearly useless for stills.

However, flip over to the iPod Touch camera specs and we see the following: "HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio; still photos (960 x 720) with back camera." Yes, the Touch shoots stills at an even lower resolution than video, most likely because the wide-screen movie format is squared-off to shoot stills. The stills it produces are just shy of 0.7 megapixels, or about the same resolution as an early 1990s-era digital camera.

It's extremely likely that the iPad 2 and the iPod Touch share the exact same camera (although we won't know for sure until iFixit tears one open to see). It seems that it will be fine for movies, and bad for photos.

My guess is they're most concerned about FaceTime, and could care less about photos. Honestly, you're going to use this big rectangle to go around taking photos?

But why skimp? So you can come out with another one in 9 months that is exactly like this one but with a good camera? It's not like there's a limitation in camera technology that's preventing them from adding something decent.

My guess is they had to make some compromises so they could keep the same price points as the original iPad.

Actually, you pretty much pegged it. I am very confident the only reason iPad 1 didnt have at least a front facing camera (and FaceTime) was that they wanted to hold it off as the "wow factor" for iPhone 4 and they knew that it would be a selling point for iPad 2.

I have to find the exact quote, but Jonathan Ive recently made a comment about how he remembers how apple used to be about meeting the consumers needs and not about making money hand over fist.

Found it: "Apple stood for something and had a reason for being that wasn't just about making money."

So when can I expect to see Jony Ive donate his millions upon millions...upon millions...to me? :)

Jony Ive owns about 30,000,000 dollars worth of Apple stock.

NBA League Pass needs to be added. I wish one of these devices would allow you to receive cable channels over the internet a la carte. Like HBO and ESPN and CSN are all I need from a cable provider.

NBA league pass was added along with MLB.tv.

I think subscription models where networks (or "packages" of networks) get paid directly and consumers log-in to watch live or on demand content are in the near future for streaming devices like Apple TV. Someone just has to convince the networks and advertisers that it can be lucrative and accessible.

I picked up an Apple TV (2) over the weekend, after they released the software update that includes MLB.tv and I don't think I've watched any broadcast television besides some March Madness since.. Netflix and MLB.tv are just about all I need.

Are there blackout rules aka this service is totally useless rules?

I'm happy with mine. Now if they would just make Otter Box cases in different colors for the Evo, I'd be totally fine.
