StrangeSox
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) So outside of what I want to do for my condo building, I am also looking for this: I am storing my motorcycle, my scooter and sea-doo all in the garage of my house in Michigan. I wanted to set up maybe 2 IP cams in the house, one by the bikes and one by the garage to catch anyone trying to steal my s***. Does anyone have any experience with setting up webcams like that to possibly record motion footage in the cloud? A lot of the home and commercial security systems have smartphone and internet apps and push notification. Not sure about recording to the cloud directly but I wouldn't see why you couldn't back out up real-time.you could use passive ir for motion sending to trigger thee cameras. there might be some video capture systems out there for residential...video is running continuous but only events around alarms are recorded to save on disk space, you get pre-alarm, alarm and post-alarm to see exactly what triggered it. There are some diy home security forums out there, they might have more direct experience with what you are looking at.
ChiliIrishHammock24
I have to create the iPhone 5 for my graphics design class. UGH. It's like asking a black person to redesign a new Klan outfit. Obviously joking, but I hate Apple, so I think this project is slowly killing me. However, our design does look pretty pimp, I'm pleased with it so far.

HuskyCaucasian
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) No you're right. Wait for the GS2. I have Sprint's version and it's insane. I did read it comes to T-Mobile the middle of October, but I am trying to stay in the $150-199 range. The GS2 is going to be closer to $240. I really dont want to spend more than $300 total between my wife and I.
StrangeSox
The Tevatron at Fermi shut down yesterday The Tevatron's end came a little after 2:30 p.m. CT (3:30 p.m. ET), as Fermilab physicist Helen Edwards pushed two specially constructed buttons, one red and the other blue. The red button shut down the collision of protons and antiprotons in the Tevatron. The blue button shut off the electrical current to the accelerator. That one, Edwards had to push twice. "It didn't want to give up so easy," said Bob Mau, the head of the accelerator division operation department at Fermilab, who was leading the live-streamed shutdown. The Tevatron played a part in some major physics finds, such as the existence of the top quark and five baryons. The baryon discovery helped scientists test and refine the Standard Model of particle physics and shape our understanding of matter, energy, space and time. The experiments at Tevatron have also helped narrow down the search for the elusive Higgs boson, or "God particle." LHC physicists are on the hunt for the Higgs, the last fundamental particle to be predicted by the Standard Model but not found. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44735502/ns/te...e/#.ToY2SWVMFi8 Edited September 30, 2011 by StrangeSox

Balta1701
Thought you were excited for the new iPhone? Try being Sprint. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Sprint paid over 20 billion dollars for access to new iPhones through 2015. As part of that deal, they have agreed to buy 30.5 million iPhones from Apple, regardless of whether or not they can sell them, which works out to Sprint subsidizing each handset by $500, according to WSJ. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse, when presenting the proposal to the Board of Directors, said it was likely that the company would not see a profit on the deal until 2014, but that it was necessary for the continued health (and existence) of the company, reports the Journal. The Wall Street Journal headline--"Sprint to 'Bet The Company' on iPhone"--pretty much sums up the huge monetary and strategic gamble the mobile carrier is making on the Apple smartphone. Sprint is currently the third-largest carrier in the United States, is betting the farm, the barn and all the animals on the continued success of the iPhone; that it will be able to retain and attract new customers only by carrying the iPhone; and that, given that its network is consistently rated better than AT&T's, it will be able to lure away some of AT&T's company's disgruntled customers. There are also rumors that Sprint will retain its unlimited data plans when it gets the iPhone, which would make it the only carrier in the United States to do so. On the heels of the WSJ report came another one by tech site Boy Genius Report, which is claiming that Sprint will get exclusive access to the iPhone 5, whenever it is released. BGR's anonymous source claims that Apple will unveil the smartphone-on-a-budget iPhone 4S tomorrow, a gadget that will be available on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint; in the future, claimed the source, when Apple releases its iPhone 5, it will come with 4G capability and be available only on the Sprint network. Neither Sprint nor Apple have responded to requests for comment on either report. Sprint stocks are down as much as 9 percent, hitting its 52-week low, following the release of the Journal story, which you can read in its full, behind-the-scenes glory on the WSJ website. I'm not really worried about the new phone whether its the 4s or 5, because I am perfectly happy with my 4 right now. I just want to know when they're going to release iOS 5 which I think will probably be the same day as the new phone.

Y2HH
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) I agree... I beta test IOS for Apple so I've been using IOS 5 for a few months now, it's quite nice. The new notification system and the quick pulldown is nice, as is backing up to iCloud to the point that you can get a new iPhone and do a complete restore over the air, all your apps, settings, emails, songs, etc... HuskyCaucasian
One thing I hate about Apple announcements: They are almost ALWAYS on Tuesday at 12pm central... right when I am in our weekly staff meeting. Guess I'll have to have my laptop with me.

Balta1701
Link Apple on Tuesday unveiled the iPhone 4S, a faster version of its best-selling smartphone. The phone looks identical to a previous model of the phone, but contains an A5 processor that the company says is up to seven times faster at rendering graphics and twice as fast at processing data than older versions of the iPhone. iPhone 4S is a "world phone," meaning it will be able to place calls more easily on wireless networks all over the world, not just in the United States. It will be available on AT&T and Verizon; so far the company has not mentioned making the phone available on Sprint, as was widely rumored in advance of the Tuesday event. The phone also has "fantastic battery life," allowing people to talk for eight hours on the phone before needing to charge it again, said Phil Schiller, Apple's vice-president for product marketing. It features an 8 megapixel camera with a better light sensor, making it as good or better than many point-and-shoot devices. It will shoot high-definition video -- and has a new image stabilization feature -- to make your YouTube videos less shaky. The announcement came at a press conference at Apple's company headquarters, which is ongoing.

I know you're not an apple guy, but honestly, the iPhone 4 really isn't outdated yet. No reason to rush it into the background quite yet. I'm probably one of the biggest Apple dorks here, and I had very little interest in this device.
