bigruss
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 10:52 AM) Hahah, yes, I remember those types of days... Since turning 35 (now 37), I don't drink like that anymore. I've learned how to turn it into a very casual 'hold the line' without getting drunk experience these days. I can have a few drinks and stop and that's it. Back in the day I never stopped ... and paid the next day. Remember your early 20's? When you could do that and there was no pay back the next day regardless? heh I don't know how you drank in your early 20's, there's still payback after I get rowdy. I can have borderline alcohol poisoning symptoms sometimes the next day. I still get after it (got in at 7am last sunday morning) but overall am trying to stop. Soxbadger
The movie Super High Me had some interesting tests. Alcohol kills me, Im never normal the next day and my body is all screwed up. When I was in college etc, it never phased me.
2nd_city_saint787
Alcohol is full of empty calories, while marijuana may give you the munchies (which it doesn't for this guy). The war on marijuana is ridiculous, its a miracle drug. Look up confessions of a medical marijuana patient and then tell me how bad it is. It's not like other prescribed drugs where it can be abused to the point of death. My aches and pains go away when I used it (seriously the last 3 weeks the pain has come back). Your body actually has cannabinoid receptors in the cartilage of ones joints. Educate yourself on the positive effect it has, it's really mind blowing. IlliniKrush
I can't drink for s*** anymore (I'm 29). Not only is it age, but there's not much tolerance left since I don't drink a lot very often. I have to play that "toe the line" game as well or it's really bad the next day. Looking back at college is ridiculous. Drink at a bar until 2, and able to get up the next morning at 9 ready to go to a college football game. Feeling slightly tired and hungover, but really not too bad. Your body gives you everything it has for those 4 years, then taps out and says alright, you're done with that nonsense. I tried to do that last year when I went back to U of I for a weekend, and the results were less than stellar. I'm sure I'm not the only one that also doesn't drink much of Miller/Coors/Bud at all anymore, I'd rather just have a few "fine" beers. No point in drinking crap. Reddy
QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 11:20 PM) What did you do Tony?!?! You just did the thing you said we should stop doing. You literally spent the article shoving very old school ideas about what a productive lifestyle should be like down my throat. not true at all. old school ideas are you get a job, get a wife, raise a family, and that's it. you take the job you're given and suck it up and do it whether you like it or not. It was more of a joke, but yea I've had a few extremely rough days after drinking when in college. Mostly because of what I was drinking (splitting a bag of Franzia with a friend while having shots of cheap Canadian whiskey, margerita flippy cup, and irish car bombs, and after party absinthe in one night - Around the world apartment crawl) would not agree with my head the next day. 2nd_city_saint787
Ya alcohol is the worst! The only time in the last 4 years that I've drank heavily is around my birthday and at rugby after parties. I can really do without drinking. It's craft beer or bust for me if I drink. Rowand44
Looks like I'm in the best drinking shape out of all of you! I can still do the week long binger, work a 40 hr week and be fine. Now I hardly ever do that anymore(did the 4th of July week) but I'm still more than capable. That's not something to brag about, is it? Jake
If my end goal is getting drunk, I'm going to be having shots and/or mixed drinks. I'm all about efficiency. I don't like to get drunk very often, though. I really have never had a hangover issue before, usually can hardly tell. A few times I've woken up the next morning still drunk, but never really hungover with headaches, puking, etc. I will never drink beer with the intention of getting drunk. I don't like the cheap stuff and while I might get my buzz on after having a few, I drink beer because I like it. I'm not a fan of being under the influence of much at all, sans the occasional heavy dose of caffeine and related stimulants.

Kyyle23
a lot to digest in this discussion. First, saint, in regards to your love lost: The cliches unfortunately are true for the most part. Fish in the sea, you will find another, etc. It is up to you to decide when you are over it. I dated a girl starting freshman year of college and broke up junior year for good, and I broke up with her for a bunch of different reasons. She flipped the script on me, started dating the guy that lived directly behind my apartment, so i basically had to watch what was going on. It truly drove me crazy. I was sleeping maybe 1 hour at a time at night, made the crazy ex boyfriend calls, talked a lot of s*** meant to split them up. Totally ruined a bunch of friendships for myself. One night, i had a one night stand(which was totally out of character for me) and it was over. I didnt need her anymore, the mental block was gone. I am not saying run out and find a girl to take home, everybody is different, but very obviously that mental block for you is still there in regards to her. In regards to puffin and stuff, i have mixed feelings. Up until a few months ago, I was a pretty regular user. Not all day all the time at first, but when the kids were away/went to bed. But it starts to bleed into normal time, and starts to control what you do. Pretty soon, you are sneaking it here and there, and it becomes normal. A pretty significant thing happened, not with the law but in my household, and it had to stop. Im not done forever, but I am done for now. It IS addictive. It IS hard to stop. The rationale we give ourselves is that it doesnt hurt us, it doesnt hurt people, it makes you laugh, it makes you mellow. It also makes you lazy, it makes you put things off. you notice these little things, and again rationalize them and think that you will get to it later and it will be fine. It hardly ever happens. Sometimes a big break is very helpful to your personal life. A crutch that was always there is removed, and you are forced to tough it out. My last yr or two in Cdale I was partying almost everyday of the week, when I got home that got cut down right away to just the weekends. Now ill still have my week long bingers if I'm on vacation or if something is going on but I also have gone 3 weeks to a month without even touching a beer when I get on my health kick. But I can definitely still drink with the best of 'em when I want to.

Sometimes a big break is very helpful to your personal life. A crutch that was always there is removed, and you are forced to tough it out. First bold statement- I think I'm over her for the most part but its just the fact that in the 2 years since I've only had a real job for 7 months (9 if you wanna include the Beachbody Coach where I actually lost money). That real job was at a condo building filed with gorgeous girls, some models even, and I didn't feel like looking for a serious girlfriend because I had all this eye candy to look at and I didn't wanna feel guilty about starring at these girls. Key word in that last sentence is looking, I wasn't looking but if someone came along and found me I would go for it. I had a little "fling" with this DJ at this dive bar me and a couple friends to went to on Thursdays for karaoke and it honestly made me forget about her but then I lost my job and was back to thinking about the old times with my ex. So really once I start working I'll get back on the scene and be fine. 2nd bold statement- If you're smoking at the right time you won't be as lazy. When I was working and buying my own stuff I always used it as a reward. If I had something to do I'd do it and then treat myself to a bowl. Back then I was in the best shape of my life, 250-260 solid, and was working out a few days a week, it wasn't until after the workout was done that I'd light up. But now, well up until 3 weeks ago, I was smoking on my friends schedule so I didn't have that same pleasure. I can't fall asleep till 3am so waking up before the 10am that my buddy wants me to come by is almost impossible for me to do in order to get a good workout in before I smoke. I had been getting on the treadmill for a few miles a day halfway between smoke sessions so I haven't been completely lazy. Oh and Reddy, I know what you we're trying to do and I appreciate that but I was telling you what I was going to do and you continued on to make my decisions look turrable. I'm not settling on security, security is what I want to do, at this point in time journalism or a restaurant/food truck are just unrealistic goals and I know that. For those who follow the squared circle thread know I'm on CM Punks nuts as much as greg is on Ozzies, and the "Straight edge means I'm better than you" is something he says. When you said you were edge it reminded me of this. Edited October 20, 2012 by 2nd_city_saint787
