ND's biggest attribute would be how good it is scholastically.

It may give the Big 10 a slight boost in prestige on name alone, but once ND is in a conference it wont be that special in terms of athletics.

ND has a great reason to join, due to the Big 10 Network, Indiana and Purdue make far more money than ND.

The reason it wont join is because right now it has the prestige of being unaffiliated and can schedule whoever it wants on their own terms. If it had to join the Big 10, it would become an average team in the conference.

(Edit)

And my post should have stated that I wasnt considering ND, because I dont believe they will join.

It was about Missouri, Nebraska and Rutgers.

I hope enough schools say no so that Iowa State gets an invite. It's really not that outlandish of a fit, except it provides no real benefit for the conference. The school is an AAU member, quality research school with great academics and a top 25 school (as of now) in the Learfield Cup standings.

But no one cares, because it'd add no new TVs. :(

Unless the Big 10 is expanding to 20+ schools not a chance. Iowa St. brings nothing to the table for the Big 10 either from an academic or athletic perspective.

Those last two have a lot less to do with it than the fact that it would add no new TVs and no new market.

And they have Heads, which is an instant deal breaker.

I got a callback on a D3 department head job today. :)

Unfortunately they pay lower than squat.

The Big 10 should offer West Virginia, Syracuse and Rutgers. If all 3 of those schools agreed then the Big East would be dead and ND would join the Big 10.

I really don't think basketball has anything to do with ND's decision.

ND has one of the best all-around men's and women's athletic programs that aren't Big 10 or Pac-10.

Almost every sports program that they have is in the top 25 every year.

Football and baseball are about the only two to not hover around the top 25 consistently, and football has been around the top 25 on occasion.

38,000?

No 3800. That is worse than peanuts, haha. How could you even live off that. I assume they would provide you with meal allowance plus living expenses, etc and than the 3800 would be the paltry amount for all other expenses?

They would allow you to work part time when it's not football season. They would provide housing too.

Still, it is not enough, and I told them no.

That's ridiculous for the amount of hours you would work. I feel like what I did here at FSU was worth way more than that a year and I was just a student assistant.

What kind of things did they have you do as a SA if you dont mind me asking?

I was doing coaches video. Filmed practice, cut film, helped out during games. We also were in charge of baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball to go along with football.

Actually Notre Dame's baseball program is pretty strong. They would immediately be one of the top teams in the Big Ten.

Yeah, they have a decent program. It would be nice to get them in several sports in the conference actually.

Wouldn't Big Ten expansion talk fit best in its own thread as it impacts more than football??

Once something more than a rumor happens, sure. Some of us like keeping the number of new threads down though.
