trade for Livian Hernandez

don't trade konerko for livan

konerko averaged 100 RBIS from 2000-2002.

he's our best defensive third baseman (did anybody watch Daubach wave at those balls Saturday night against Tampa?)

Sox need Konerko to deliver the final two months to overtake the Royals. He's primed for a monster August.

And Livan is no sure thing.

Kevin Jarvis would be cheaper -- and perhaps as good.

Then we would have Osuna and Biddle. The bullpen would be nails. Maybe even Rick White would be happy.

I don't know about that Osuna has sucked this year with the yankees. But would love to have Biddle he would give us 3 guys back there able to save a game.

Livan is a proven pitcher but he works way too slow! Thats the main reason the Giants let him go and now the Expo's dont want him. He makes his defense fall asleep which prompts errors. Id rather have Jarvis but Livan is on, he's the man.

Do you think the Expos would actually want Konerko for Livan? You're under-estimating his value and over-estimating Konerko's. They wouldn't dump salary, and they're getting someone thats possibly injured and not performing. Livan is still a good starter and many teams like his experience. imo they would much rather have a couple of good AA prospects.

Fogg is 6-5 with a 5.25 ERA and a terrible WHIP of 1.46.  Granted he is better than what we've had as a 5th starter, but I don't think he's gonna be that good at the big league level...

Agreed. I've said from day one that Kip Wells was the only person the Sox gave up of value. Lowe was a wash and I didn't see much out of Fogg other then him being a nice backend of the pen reliever.

That is why I don't see the trade as as big of a fiasco as most. Kip is a solid starting pitcher and the Sox thought Ritchie would be that.

If anyone is telling me that we'd be happy with Fogg, you got to be kidding me.

Look at the numbers posted by Abozichiu and then remember that he's pitching in the NL and its pretty much a given that its much more difficult pitching in the AL because of the DH.

I'd say his ERA would be around 5.5 at the very least if he was in the AL.

Plus if we still had Kip and Fogg who knows whether the Sox would of added Loiaza or Colon. It stinks giving up a good young arm in Kips and it was a mistake, but ever gm and team makes mistakes.

If given the choice I think either Jarvis or Hernandez would be better then Suppan because they are long term solutions.

Both jarvis and Hernandez are having very solid years (Both era's are under 4).

The biggest thing is getting Suppan will cost a team a good to very good prospect while you'll only have to give up a mediocre/fringe guy for Jarvis or Hernandez. The big question is would JR be willing to pick up the tab on Jarvis for a few years or on Hernandez for next year (6 or 6.5 mill if I recall). Would the Pads or Expos pick up part of that contract for someone like Majewski or a Spidale persay?

Yes I think they would take Konerko for Hernadez. the reason being is that they need a power hitting 1st baseman(They have Wil Cordero there right now.) The only problem would be would they take Konerko's salary and that could be a major question. But if it was excepted by the major leagues then I would do it. Like I said I don't see konerko being more than a .250 hitter, 20 homer and 80 RBI man the rest of his career.

I'd rather see teh Sox have the money to sign and keep the pitching staff in tact then keep Konerko (Who is my favorite player).

This would allow Rowand to play more in center (With Everett in Left/DH along with Carlos). Then on certain days Daubbie could play 1st with Thomas DH, etc).

Next season the Sox could resign Lee for much less then Konerko makes and I think worse case they put up very similar numbers while the Sox add Jeremy Reed to the outfield.

I agree, also it would also give us a chance to go after Matsui or Tejada.

I agree with you here, too. As much as I like PK (and I still do regardless of his struggles this year), I think he is the most expendable quality hitter we have. I'd rather keep Carlos Lee because I think he will, long term, be the better of the two.
