Have any of you been to Cairo, Egypt? Was thinking of including it on my honeymoon (going to go to a few European countries) and thought it could be cool to see the pyramids but was curious to see if anyone has ever been and whether it is worth it, safe, etc.

I have not been, but if I were a newly married man, rising up the career ladder, and presiding over the best website in the history of the intrawebs, I would not go at the present time. It is not particularly safe for Americans to be there right now.

Haha, that was my biggest potential concern with potentially going there (me and my fiance's safety).

Jason, go to THIS link and click on the "safety and security" link. That describes what the situation is for American tourists in Eygpt.

Growing up my parents best friends were a pair of nuns that lived behind us and i remember being around 13 or 14 when they came back from Cairo. I remember them saying as far as being a 'tourist-y" thing the pyramids and Sphinx were pretty disappointing.

I have had a couple of friends live there after college. (One is still living there.) According to them, the worst thing is just the constant sexual harassment. They've never been in any danger, but they have been harassed a lot.

My uncle was just there for a couple weeks on business. He said there are definitely sketchy areas where you should not go but there are also many places where it's safe. It's about staying where you should I guess he said. He was there for work so they had guides constantly with them though.
