sin city sox fan
Heading out to Glendale next month and going to the games 3/19 vs Cubs and 3/20 vs Padres (also 3/21 @ Maryvale vs. Brewers)....Saturday will be pretty full as I'm going to the Blackhawks / Ducks game that night......but looking for suggestions on good restaurants/bars around Camelback for the other days. Any good ideas for a late breakfast before the games? How about a good sports bar to grab drinks at after a game? And any recommended places to eat (anything from subs to steakhouses)? Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions.

Well being that we don't have Sonics, In-and-Out burger, Chick-a-filia, and a couple other places here in NW Indiana, that is where we were going last year when i went. But here is 1 place you HAVE to go to. It's a cult icon in Arizona, and it's a helluva experience.... Heartattack Grill - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koxRy4asAAc It's located in Chandler, AZ. Not to far from the stadium I believe because we went there for dinner after a Sox/A's game last year. Maybe 25-30 minutes.

Balta1701
The LA Times ran a nice feature on travel to Camelback last year. Link Link
The Ginger Kid
I ate at this place at least three times last year, it's terrific. Right up the road from Camelback, in the same complex of hotels and crap where the team stays, right near the big football stadium: http://camaronesaz.com/ a little further up the road is this place, that I also liked. Good pizza (then again, you can't beat Chicago...) http://www.grimaldispizzeria.com/peoria.html Edited February 21, 2010 by The Ginger Kid

DBAHO
That Pizza place that Jeff (SHIPPS) insisted we go to (and the damn place was closed). Around the Ballpark, there's not really that much as it's quite close to the freeway. Best bet is to probably head to a place like Peoria, Tempe, Mesa etc. one of the suburbs where most of the bars / nightlife are.

There aren't many non-chain places in or around Honda Center that I know of—I only eve go down there for games—but I know of plenty in LA. champs2005
I went to ST last year. A reallly nice place to have a beer and watch the NCAA tournament is The Yard House in the big mall by the U of Phoenix stadium and the hockey rink where the Coyotes play. The Yard House has like 100 beers on tap and is really nice. This mall is a fun place to hang out and people watch and there are several bars and restaurants there. There is a small family-run Italian Joint east on Glendale avenue that was featured in Diners Drive Ins and Dives called La Piazza Al Forno. It is hard to find little places like this in Phoenix-Glendale as most every restaurant is a chain. That said, In-N-Out Burger is a must. There are several locations. There is one just a couple exits north on the highway that runs near Camelback.

Wanne
Just head to the Westgate area next to the football stadium....a bunch of stuff there: http://www.goglendaleaz.com/food/westgate_restaurants.html I usually go to Gordon Biersch or Yardhouse down there. Not a big Margaritaville fan but there's one there. or head up to the Arrowhead area around the Padres/Mariners complex. There's a ton of crap there too... Tilted Quilt, Famous Daves BBQ, (go down Paradise Ln and there's a little outside bar joint called Salty's...right back behind the Padres practice fields). There's really too many places to list right around there. My personal favorite is Abuelo's Mexican and Tagliani Italian. http://www.goglendaleaz.com/food/arrowhead_restaurants.html And as for In-N-Out Burger...personally I think that place blows! You want a good burger around Arrowhead area: http://www.freddysfrozencustard.com/ I have to have a Freddy's burger at least twice a week or I have DTs. I like 'em without cheese...and the shoestring fries are great. Click on the menu and roll over a burger... It's on the SE corner of 51st Ave and Bell right next to Walgreens.
