Cotts Tonight

Wow, atta boy Cottsy!

I'm also waiting for the box score. I'm willing to bet Neal just ran out of gas, considering this was the deepest he's ever worked this year. Very positive, none the less.

that is what i am thinking.............. he is progressing very well.

This was pieced together off of the post-game radio show from Mobile.  It may be off slightly.

either way, i am happy for him. yeah too bad he didn't win, but its the progress that i am looking at.

I'm just disappointed for Neal. The last two games he has been totally dominant only to lose it in the 8th inning. Unfortunately, he has picked up losses in both due to no run support (3 runs total in the two games).

This is all part of the learning process and these last two outings were as deep as he has gone all year. I do feel that if the Sox need a 5th starter on Saturday, that Neal is ready to go. The Barons are in a pennant race and I would hate to see him go, but I do feel he is ready.

Rex, do you have any clue what Cotts' pitch count was in the 8th either time? Seems to me he's just running on fumes when he hits the back end of a game.

Yeah, last Wednesday he had only thrown 68 pitches going into the 8th. He was cruising and getting guys out early in the count. So you can't really call that a factor then.

I have no idea about tonight since the game was in Mobile. He did have 9 strikeouts and 3 walks, so perhaps his pitch count was a little higher tonight. But I do know that they wouldn't let him go much higher than 100.

i remember in the beginning of the season, i was saying that the barons would do good and make the playoff.

a lot of posters said that they, the club took a beating by losing a lot of the players. i still had faith.

yessssss!!!!

i think and hope you are right on that cotts may be ready now in at any other point.

The reality is LDF, that the Barons aren't really very good. They are 19-16 in this half and that is good for a tie for 1st place. Not a lot of good teams in the Southern League this year.

Don't get me wrong, I want them to win, but I have to be honest about it. The Barons are full of very average AA players with a few exceptions. Wally has them winning just enough to hang in there, though.

Bajenaru is a RH relief pitcher who has a chance to be a bullpen guy in the show. He was excellent in a setup role when Ring was closing, but has struggled a bit since his role has changed. He has closed some, but not all the time. He missed all of last year with arm surgery.

From the box score, it looks like he left with the bases loaded. The first guy following walked his one hitter. The next guy gave up two hits and hit a batter to clear the bases.

I'd say let Cotts pitch 7 innings in the MAJORS on Saturday, then get him out of there. Anyone think Danny Wright can do any better?? I'd take him right now over the San Diego pitcher Jarvis and give him even money to be better than Suppan.

Here are 4 young pitchers who have come up this year to make big impacts:

Dontrelle Willis, 21

Jerome Williams, 21

Rich Harden, 21

Brendan Webb, 24

Cotts could be #5. Our own version of Francisco Rodriguez.
