Knackattack
Maybe we should look into sending either A.J. or T-Flow to the Rangers for Smoak or Davis? The Rangers need a catcher and we need a 1st baseman, we both have extra players at the position and match up well.

southsider2k5
The only way Smoak is coming to us is if we deal one of our young starters.
Knackattack
QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) why would texas want A.J.? Nothing really at the position. Toby Hall and Salty are both injured, they could extend him for a couple years and hope to pick up something that works out later. I'd, personally, do Flowers for Smoak or for Davis + some gladly. sircaffey
Texas has 2 solid young catchers in Teagarden and Salty. Don't think they'd be looking to trade for another young catcher. In fact, I think they traded away another one of their young catchers, Max Ramirez, this offseason, right?

Salty is already 25 and hasn't done much at all yet, not to mention that he is injured, and Teagarden has still got a year or two before he is ML ready. MiddleCoastBias
QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) why would texas want A.J.? They took back an old-balls Ivan Rodriguez, maybe they have a thing for old catchers.
SockMe
I love both the guys on the Rangers but the AJ and Flowers are great too, this is a tough one..........................

All true. Flowers though is probably the same way. They may be interested in A.J. as a stopgap, but he's not worth anything close to Smoak or Davis. Plus I don't really think the Sox can afford to lose A.J. if they want to contend. He knows this staff like the back of his hand.
Kalapse
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) Salty is already 25 and hasn't done much at all yet, not to mention that he is injured, and Teagarden has still got a year or two before he is ML ready. So they should start looking for another catcher because Saltalamacchia is already 25 and "injured" and Teagarden isn't ML ready despite the fact that he's 26 and split catching duties with Salty throughout last season? Salty is coming off surgery to his right shoulder but he's not currently "injured". Their catchers would be Salty against righties (hoping he can hit them as well as he did in '08) and Teagarden against lefties (hoping he can hit them as well as he did in '09 only with a much larger sample size and his minor league splits would suggest he should be able to do so). That's basically good enough or at least not bad enough to warrant giving up talented young major league ready players for a stop gap. They're not going to trade young talent for yet another young catching prospect when they already have 2 at the major league level. You wanna trade Beckham for Lyle Overbay? Because that's what you're asking of the Rangers when you request Justin f***ing smoke for AJ Pierzynski.
Tuna
Did Konerko and Viciedo get hurt? If Konerko has a good to decent year then they may extend him a year (or two). hopefully at that point the investment they made in Viciedo will pay off. The first half of this season is going to be huge as far as what direction this club will have to go in. Or we can pick up Agon at the deadline. Or we can be completly out of it and KDub blows up the team. I think there's more of a chance KW talks nomar out of retirement to play first for us before we get Davis or Smoak. Why did it take so long for someone to ask this question? I don't see the Sox currently "in need of" a first baseman. They have one. The desire to trade for Gonzalez does not mean the Sox need a 1B, it just measn that Gonzalez is a really good player and it seemed like a possiblity they could maybe work something out to get him. In fact, I think they traded away another one of their young catchers, Max Ramirez, this offseason, right? the trade of max ramirez for lowell was called off due to lowell's injury so texas still have him. Max Ramirez was a BA top 100 prospect last year or so, so his upside is definitely there, and could be better than Flowers too since his defense is excellent. I am not sure if Texas consider AJ or Flowers over Max as an upgrade. Besides, Smoak is probably the best first base prospect around, Chris Davis was highly touted after an great year in 2008 with limited playing time, so i doubt texas would settle for AJ or Flowers for either players. Reddy
Flowers is a s*** prospect compared to Smoak, and Davis is going to break out. No way in HELL they trade either one for a crappy return like Flowers or AJ. Come on.

I wouldn't go THAT far especially considering catching prospects are much more valuable than 1B prospects especially when you have alot of stud 1B spects out there. Catching prospects take much more time to develop unless your name is Joe Mauer, but Smoak is a stud though. If your talking Smoak, Texas would probably prefer pitching back. So ya.. Hudson and go from there. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) Welcome to the forum Knackattack.
