southsider2k5
QUOTE (CubsSuck1 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) I saw the Hawks play in Columbus earlier this year. The arena was easily 1/4-1/3 Hawks fans, many of whom decided to cheer for the anthem on the road. Good times. It sure didn't help their play there yesterday... Milkman delivers
QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) To each their own. You don't have to stand, you don't have to remove your hat, you can eat your nachos during it, or you can hoot and hollar and scream USA or GO HAWKS. It's your choice as a citizen of the country they are playing the anthem for. I personally stand and remove my hat, even put the hand over my heart, but to each their own. The noise level increases when the song is winding down in anticipation of it being over and the game getting ready to start at all sporting events. Hawks games are just louder throughout the singing, but I think it is far less a patriotic roar in most cases and more of hey let's get fired up for "kickoff, tip off, face off, first pitch" etc. Also a really long version by the singer usually is greeted with groans almost as if saying c'mon let's get this meaningless ritual over and get to the game! It's true that it is your choice, but it certainly isn't patriotic to do any of those things in the first bold part.
longshot7
I think they should get rid of the anthem before all sporting events. There's so much goddamn forced patriotism in this country............

flippedoutpunk
im pretty sure were not the only country that plays the national anthem before sporting events. I dont think anyones ever forced to be patriotic or else we would have something crazy like forcing all of americas youth to join some form of our military as soon as they turn 18.
