Yes, Iowa to Fire Lick

Iowa might as well make a run at Scott Drew and see if he's interested.

I think they will most definitely reach out to Drew. He's done a hell of a job at Baylor. I think Drew will probably be one of the most realistic candidates out there.

I figure worse case, Iowa hires Keno Davis. Former Hawkeye, young, pretty charasmatic, and has done a solid job. Not an exciting hire though so I'm hoping they can hit it big.

I'm also a realist and our program isn't what it was a few years ago. They do have a new practice facility being built though and they are 4th in big ten spend on basketball which should be enticing to plenty of coaches.

Is he Tom Davis kid?

Yep. He took over for Tom Davis at Drake and now is at Providence.

Scott Drew is probably the most realistic, higher profile candidate that Iowa could land. They can offer more money and better facilities than Baylor can.

That would be a huge take for them. Drew has some great genes for coaching.

I can't see Drew leaving Baylor this offseason. He has a top 3 player coming in next year, and his best player on the current roster, E. Udoh, is expected to return next season. You're looking at a top 10 team for 2010-2011. He's also known as one of the shadiest recruiters in all of college basketball.

If that is the case, the sooner he gets out, the better.

Why get out now though when he finally has his superstar, Perry Jones, coming to campus? I think after next season will be when he jumps elsewhere.

Iowa might kick the tires on Paul Hewitt.

Is that an actual source? If that's true, I pray to God that you guys take him. Trust me, you don't want him. No one gets less out of their talent than he does. No doubt in my mind that GT would have been better if they just didn't have a coach the last 5 seasons. I also don't think he'd relate well to the recruits in the state of Iowa. He plays the race card very, very often with recruits.

If he is that dirty, the NCAA will be knocking on his door in no time.

It's Baylor...as long as you don't try to frame one of your deceased players as a drug dealer, then you're considered a good guy.

Fathom where have you heard Udoh is coming back? Everything I have heard is that Udoh is going to seriously test the waters along with Dunn.

Baylor loses the only PG on their roster in Tweety Carter as well, I wouldn't be shocked if Drew leaves. Perry Jones isn't really an instant impact like a Durant or Beasley even though he's ranked similarly. He's very similar to John Henson at UNC this year, he will struggle offensively, but can contribute in other ways as the season progresses.

Baylor could be in the NIT again next year with the PG questions.

We know Carter and Lomers will be gone as seniors, but I'm also expecting Udoh to leave and be a late lotto pick. I think Dunn sticks around another year, but you never know.

There was an interview with Drew a month ago where he said that Udoh told him that he has no desire to go pro, and that he was for sure returning next season. Considering this is Udoh's 4th college season, I think he'd be nuts to return.

DePaul's relevance went out with parachute pants. They need to make a big splash in a coach.

Well, they definitely are leaving their options open to all possible applicants. With all the basketball experts on this board, I think some of Soxtalk should apply as well:

Those kind of things don't happen internally. Its the people who don't like you who turn you in.

They have to do that by law. It means nothing. ALL job postings must be publicly posted.

Rick Barnes and most of the Big 12 coaches despise Drew. Drew is a big time negative recruiter. If Barnes had something on Baylor, he would have turned them in by now.

No, I have no source. I know GT is not happy with Hewitt, but he's done a pretty good job by my standards. I'm not expecting Iowa to become a national powerhouse, I'd be happy if they got back to contending for a big ten title every few years and made the tourney 75% of the time.

Right now they are an utter failure of a program and it sucks. Hewitt can at least recruit.

I think Baylor's HC Drew would be a great hire though. I still think Memphis coach would be plan #1 (outside of Pearl). He's young and has been referred to Iowa by Lute Olsen and is one hell of a recruiter.

Olsen loves Iowa so he'd do a great sell job or so I'd hope and Iowa can offer a lot of money which is nice.

Hewitt's had one above .500 record in the ACC during his ten years in Atlanta. He's been a debacle, and he owes Jarrett Jack and Will Bynum millions of dollars for one tournament run.

Can you imagine Hewitt coaching without elite talent. That would be an epic disaster.

It's funny, but his least talented team was his first season at GT, and they made the tournament and really overachieved. However, his biggest issue has been that he has terrible assistant coaches. Rumor is that Jeff Lebo will be brought in to be their X and O guy next year as an assistant. I just can't believe anyone would want him as your coach. Maybe you should read his comments relating to black players playing for Miami football instead of GT football because they have a black coach?

UTEP Coach and former Callipari assistant Tony Barbee seems to be one of the guys Iowa has targeted. Supposedly he's very high up on their list.

Barbee is a hell of a recruiter and while he isn't a proven coach he's done a nice job at UTEP and could be a really nice hire.

Right now my #1/#2 are Pastner & Barbee.
