Don't we agree he's a good basestealer? He just had some brain lapses when he got picked off. As Ranger would say, those pickoffs didn't make or break us ultimately.

Terrific post. I agree entirely.

And I disagree quite significantly.

Just a tiny bit of sarcasm on my part...

My view of podsednik had been well stated since the day he was brought in via trade. I am easily one of the top five podsednik bashers (for good reason), but i have given up talking about him much the last couple years. Only capn and kalapse compare, fathom does not like anyone... so he doesn't count. Jphat who once highly disliked the man is now apparently infatuated. I personally hate to even look at podsednik. Something about him irks me.

I love how everything is cut and dried.

When many Sox fans think of Pods, they think of some dumb baserunning blunders.

When I think of Pods I think of the f***ing many multi-hit games he produces. He steals bases. Even the Sox brass took him for granted because they didn't seem very interested in working with him on a deal.

We could have signed him for a similar deal the Royals got him for if we showed interest. I firmly believe that.

Kansas City is f***ing in love with Pods right now. If he keeps this up another week, it could be Pods-mania. Normally bitter Royals fans brighten up when you mention Pods. They mention the fact he is a "real baseball player" unlike most of the stiffs they've had the past many years.

But let's keep bringing up his bad baserunning.

we could bring up his awful defense too if you want. There is an awesome .gif of a ball bouncing off his head over the fence for a homerun we can look at

I won't tell you which stats belong to whom, you can figure that one out.

Lets play a game called "Who is more consistent, and who is Mr. Glass", shall we?

Strictly on durability alone, there is no contest. By the numbers, both men are slowing down due to wear and tear/age etc, so the SB numbers are declining for both. Also, don't tell me Pods gets on base anymore than Pierre either, as you can tell by the numbers above, overall that is not the case. Part of that goes back to the durability issue.

Pierre is making 3 million from off of the Sox payroll this year(LA paying $7 mil for 2010 and $3.5 mil in 2011), and just 2 years/$8 mil overall.

Pods is making 1.75 million from the KC payroll, but WANTED a multi-year contract talks to even consider the White Sox.

Pods is a great 'flavor of the week' right no for KC, because he is no doubt producing big time. But history, statistics, and plain ole common sense tells you that, in the long run, the guy on our current team is the guy that should be on our team. Use some common sense.

Isn't pickoffs and caught stealing percentage a part of what determines a good baserunner?

The thing that gets me, though, is why we always assume Pierre will have good numbers AGAIN this year. He didn't have more than 400 at bats each of the last two years. Aren't we planning on giving him 600 at bats this year?

For some reason, I'd be more excited about a Granderson or Damon or even a Pods than Juan Pierre. To me, Juan Pierre is yawn inducing. Don't know why, I just not crazy bout him.

His point was who WOULDN'T want Grandy? Though it would be suicide for the Tigers to just give him to a team in their division for a couple of prospects, it was bad enough they gave him to the Yankees.

Random note: my friend with to high school with Granderson, back when everybody was still using Myspace I saw him on her friends list (his rookie year) and I was like what the hell, you don't know s*** about baseball, why is Curtis Granderson on your friends list?

Granderson is (I think) the one significant player to come from my school's conference, and I wanted him badly.

Pods must want Franklin Gutierrez's nickname.

Wait, what?

Anything that says Podsednik shows defensive skills is crazy.

I don't understand that out of all of the player on our team last year that failed consistently at the plate, some people here still carried a hate for Pods. Yes, he did make a lot of base running mistakes, but that is because he was one of the hitters on our team who would actually be on base. He was around .300 his entire time in a White Sox uniform last year. Some of you wanna say that having a guy who is hitting like Podsednik wouldn't be HUGE right now. With all the close games we have had and lost, someone hitting over .240 that can steal bases might have made a big difference.

At least he was on base to get picked off.

Yeah how terrible. He got picked off after driving in the game tying run. He should be more like Pierre and just ground out to second base instead...
