southsider2k5
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) Greg Walker sucks at his job. He does a terrible job of helping hitters adjust after the league adjusts to them. Beckham's swing, as well as his use of his legs in the swing, is terrible right now. He fouls off so many good pitches to hit to the right side. It's not just that his batting average is low, he's not hitting anything with authority. And if Gordo was hitting this year, it would be because Beckham was a great hitter, and nothing to do with Walker. Please.
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) You mean he's not fast enough to hit a bunt double? I wonder if that has ever happened. A bunt double. I know there have been infield doubles, in fact I believe Guillen hit one back in the day, in Minny.

I know there have been infield doubles, in fact I believe Guillen hit one back in the day, in Minny. Didn't Carl Crawford or someone on the Rays have some crazy play within the last two years in which they turned a bunt into a run? Throwing error to first, more errors, etc.? Please. Walker says that the veterans don't need a hitting coach. Well, when a young player is struggling so badly, that falls on the player as well as Walker. caulfield12
Walker also said it's very very difficult to make in-season swing or mechanics overhauls....like when Rios came in and was completely lost. Beckham has a slight hitch now in his swing and he's also not swinging on a level plan with that inside out solid contact up the middle and to LCF/RCF. But why is it that Cooper (with pitchers) or Tiger Woods (in golf) can do it relatively quickly? Aren't both repetitive motions that can be learned and unlearned....trained and untrained and retrained?

caulfield12
Level plane....sorry. Walker is around ostensibly to hang out with Ozzie and Cora in the dugout, shoot the sh-t with Harrelson (two good 'ol Georgia Boys) and sign autographs for those Sox fans who remember 1983 still. What is he getting paid to do? With the way this offense is struggling I'd expect him to be working 60 hour weeks looking at tape and working with batters. daggins
I just feel like Ozzie will be the first to go. Generally teams with a lot of expectations can only lose this badly for so long before something gets shook up.
