witesoxfan
QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) I just feel like Ozzie will be the first to go. Generally teams with a lot of expectations can only lose this badly for so long before something gets shook up. Ozzie won't be the first to go. If the lineup keeps not hitting, Walker will go. greg775
So I see that Ozzie called Beckham out today by saying "he's not the man". He's not the man, but I guess that's besides the point. Uh, Paulie is the man. Buehrle is the man. No way is Beckham the man. Ozzie is trying to tell him to relax, that he's not the man and shouldn't feel the pressure of being the man. No way is Beckham the man. Ozzie is trying to tell him to relax, that he's not the man and shouldn't feel the pressure of being the man. He also said that nobody will be the man as long as he manages the team. You can interpret this in two ways 1) He doesn't want anybody to feel too much pressure 2) He's selfish and wants all the attention on him
greg775
I think the tone of the story makes it obvious he wants the players to feel no pressure. Why Beckham is feeling pressure is beyond me. These guys just can't relax and play ball I guess.
hogan873
I have to believe that there will be a shake up soon if things don't improve. After losing the first two in Texas, it's more than conceivable that the Sox could go 1-5 or 2-4 on this road trip. Going home worse than 10-15 (and I think 10-15 is optimistic) has to ruffle some feathers. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Ozzie fired. He was given too much freedom with this team and his rotating DH idea, and he has failed thus far. I really don't see it getting better unless KW steps in and makes some changes, even if that change is telling Ozzie to knock off the stupid decisions. Milkman delivers
There have been about 15 posts in PHT since I signed off last night. People seem to really be ignoring this team right now. I can't blame them. A lot of people seem to be losing faith in the Sox.

chetkincaid
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Its power level is well over 9000. I see what you did there Vegeta. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) So I posted this yesterday: Nothing has changed on that front but I have another fun fact: Juan Pierre is one of only two players in the game with at least 60 PA (Pierre has 84 PA) and no extra base hits, the other is Chris Coghlan. If Juan doesn't pick up an XBH sometime in the next 3 games it'll mark only the 3rd time in his career in which he's failed to pick up an XBH in a full month's worth of play. The other 2: April, 2002: .284/.371/.284/.655 (102 PA) Sept, 2000: .286/.339/.286/.625 (124 PA) April, 2010: .211/.268/.211/.479 (84 PA) Other players with only 1 XBH: Pierzynski (1 2B), Podsednik (1 2B), Borbon (1 3B), DeWitt (1 2B) I love Pierre, but something has to give. I'm sick and tired of those lil popcorn fart hits to the short stop. I'd hate to have to move Rios up there. I say leave him alone before he reverts back to the 2009 second half Alex Rios. I don't know I just don't wanna see the bad Rios back again and have everyone here talking about how he has a bad contract and KW is an idiot for picking him up or how his contract is going to keep us from signing somebody else or blah blah blah. hogan873
I'm not going to start a new thread, but what would you do right now if you were KW? I wouldn't do anything until after this road trip and maybe into the next home stand. If the Sox are swept during this road trip and lose 2 of 3 to KC, I'd have to do something. But would firing Ozzie be the right move? Who would step in? Would you start shopping your players?

I dont know what he can really do right now since the damage was done in the offseason. signing matsui or vlad and having damon lead off over pierre i think would have made a huge difference but now its too late and there is not much to work with anymore. i dont think firing ozzie is all of a sudden going to make them a contender. i understand wanting to wait a little longer but do you really need to see anymore to recognize that this team is not good enough? would beating the royals really change your opinion? No, not at all. I agree that signing Damon, Matsui, or Vlad would have made a huge difference. It seemed that everyone was aware of the fact that the rotaing DH plan (especially with Kotsay being heavily involved) was a bad idea except for KW and Ozzie. Kalapse
Everyone on on the team with at least 10 PA has at least 2 hits with RISP except for 1 player; Juan Pierre. He's 1 for 18 (.056/.105/.056/.161), the next worst AVG is AJ at 2 for 13 (.154/.214/.231/.445). The Best is Carlos Quentin at 6 for 20 w/ 3 HR and 16 RBI (.300/.423/.800/1.223). Pierre may be passed in the next few days by Mark Kotsay (0-8).

Yes, which was my biggest problem with the deal at the time, he's due $5M next year. I don't see anyone trading for him, so unless he's released (not gonna happen) we have to live with his mediocre to awful production for another year. Last I saw, Andruw Jones could play the outfield. Even if you don't want to play him everyday in the outfield, he can still play it occasionally, even up to 3-4 times a week. You can DH him on one or two of the days he doesn't play in the outfield. And if he were to ever get hurt, Delgado would actually be a decent backup plan as an everyday DH.
