The Sox had 5 pitchers with 3 strikeouts in 8 innings. I wonder if that has ever happened before.

5 White Sox pitchers record 3+ K's on Thursday. 1st 9-inning game in modern history (since 1900) in which a team had 5 pitchers record 3+ K's.

per ESPNStatsinfo on Twitter.

I expect the pen to be solid all year long. I'm sure Linebrink will have a dip in production in the 2nd half per usual but besides him and Randy Williams everyone else in the pen should be real good all year imo.

Pretty much sums it up. My only beef with KW is not getting a better LH to help Thornton in the pen. Williams is just awful. I believe he already has 7 walks in only 4.1 IP. In comparison, Garcia has 8 and has pitched 6 more innings. Just never liked him in the pen to begin with even as a LOOGY.

Threets looks like he could be the real deal too...

He is still 28, not super old.

I liked him more than Williams comming out in ST. Great arm/stuff (though for some reason his K numbers don't translate despite the stuff) but his problem is the same like Williams. He'll walk the world. (and Williams will or probably K more hitters, plus the MLB experience)

There is a unofficial sports rule that no group or subgroup can be called "Fab Five" or "Fab Four" if the team's overall record is below .500.

This team is going to go 61-101 just to piss you off.

It wouldn't piss me off.

It would be disappointing...and probably impossible with the Royals and Indians in our own division. We have to beat those teams about 50% of the time, no matter how poorly we've played the Indians so far.

If we're going to be that bad, we might as well go out and completely tear things apart, because another 78-84 win team that's non-competitive for the division title won't do anything for the attendance anyways. Having a Top 5-6-7-8 draft pick would be so much better than 13-17, too.

I'd be more excited about seeing Flowers, Hudson, Danks and Viciedo play than I ever would be about a 43 year old Vizquel, Kotsay, Pierre or Mark Teahen, that's for sure.

Things have gotten to the point I'd rather see Nix play/bat than half of our line-up. That's saying something. Or I'd rather see CJ Retherford and similar players who have something to prove and a chip on their shoulders who really appreciate every day they're on a major league roster. It's not like they could be any worse than Owens, Fields, Wasserman, Brian Anderson and Andy Gonzalez. That's impossible to duplicate.

Seems as if Tony Pena has finally found his groove in Chicago also, although it is very early obviously.

He was very good at the end of last season though IIRC.

Ever since they picked up Peña, I have been waiting for him to take a Thornton turn. It makes sense that it took almost a full season, though. Well, hopefully.

Not necessarily. I think the change in roles and amount of IP will have a very positive effect on Linebrink. He may actually end up being a pretty good reliever for us, but definitely not worth the money he's being paid.

The pen has been OK, but don't grt ahead of yourself in praising them...note that in the very few game-on-the-line situations that Thorton and Jenks have had been in, they have been shakey at best.

Exactly, let's not kid ourselves.
