Milkman delivers
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) If you choose to go all the way back to 2001 to make a point, then go ahead. I think 5 years is a good cutoff to evaluate what a GM has done of late. 2005: 'nuff said. 2006: On paper, team was better than 2005. 57-31 at the all-star break. I'm certainly not blaming Kenny for the second half collapse. 2007: Kenny gets some blame here. Didn't really upgrade the team from the previous year. And that bullpen experiment failed miserably. 2008: KW deserves more credit here than for 2005. Brought in the almost ROY and MVP. Two bold trades that brought in Danks/Floyd the previous year paid major dividends. 2009: 50/50 here. The roster that ended the season was much better than the roster that began the season. The division was there for the taking. And the team didn't get it done. 2010: TBD. I'm just fine with KW as our GM. I'm comparing his career as a GM to the rest of the league. I don't think that's a stretch at all. And in reference to the bold part, so am I. It just wouldn't upset or surprise me to see him axed. I believe Ozzie is more worthy of being fired, but neither should be feeling too comfortable right now.
Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) That's the great part of being a fan. You control the message to the team. The message is already clear. Win the World Series and they'll show up. The Sox have finished in the top 10 in attendance exactly ONCE since 2001. Guess what year that was? Every other year besides that they were 15th or lower. So if crybaby/bandwagon Sox fans want to boycott the team now that won't be sending much of a "message." And if things turn around (quickly), 2010 could be similar to 2009 with KW making some moves to improve the roster. Obviously he's not going to land a Peavy and a Rios again, but there's definite room for improvement as long as the team is worthy of improvement. I've never had many complaints about KW. My biggest complaint this year is Ozzie's handling of the DH situation, but that does go back to KW...he could have trumped Ozzie and went his own way and tried to acquire a bat. What are you going to improve though? Are you going to give up on Quinten, Beckham, Pierre, Ramirez and Teahen? KW isn't going to do that and show he failed. Not this early. Same goes with Floyd. The only way we get better the rest of this year, or for the next two or 3 years, is if those players play at a significantly higher level than they have really in the past two years. There isn't much KW can do to improve the mess of a roster he created except for pray. I don't think he is going to be able to find replacements for all of the above. kitekrazy
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) We just haven't spend near enough in terms of international free agents and on the draft. Ahh but just think, how bad it would be it if Fukadome signed with the Sox. How is that Visciedo or whatever dude is from Cuba doing in the minors? Is he any good defensively? KW can improve this team by: -Securing a big bat -Securing a big bat -Securing a big bat Like I mentioned, the only way KW tries to improve this team is if the underperformers start performing like they should be. Then and only then would it make sense for KW to make a move.
whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2010 -> 08:58 AM) Every day. Stop buying tickets. Stop watching games. Stop talking about the team. Well I'm going to stop buying tickets, because I refuse to waste money on crap. Spending money on Sox tickets this year is like going to a restaurant, getting poor service and crappy food, and smiling and coming back for more several more times in response. I'm still going to watch games and talk about the team though, because I'm not a bandwagon fan and I really doubt anybody else who posts on this board is either. So you are going to quit eating at the restaraunt, but you are still going to waste your time b****ing about it? I'll never understand it. How is that Visciedo or whatever dude is from Cuba doing in the minors? Is he any good defensively? Wow, signing Fukudome is completely different from signing a prospect. He was a polished player expected to contribute right away. I believe Chisoxfn is looking for more prospects, ones that we can develop and play cheaply once they reach the majors. It's just another source of young talent besides the draft, which we have neglected for years and hopefully keep turning it around.

There is no use doing anything unless the players mentioned above play a lot better, significantly better, than they did the first 6 weeks of the season. We have it invested in the players we have here and if they don't play better, we're screwed. One bat added isn't going to fix the problem. And if those guys don't play significantly better (CQ, Beckham, Teahen) it's going to be a tough few years. I'll never understand it. Well restaurants and baseball teams are a lot different, so that's why it's a loose analogy. Are you saying I should either stop following the team, or just smile and not complain anytime things go wrong?
