The Ginger Kid
He was a tremendous pitcher and that '47 team was fantastic, just a bunch of young guys. They also had one named Eddie Waitkus and if you ever get a chance, look him up. He was traded to the Phils by the Cubs. There was a young woman from Chicago who worshiped Eddie Waitkus. In fact, during pre-game he once smiled at her and she fainted right there in the stands at Wrigley. She was devastated when he was traded to Philly, so much so that she tried to kill him when he came to town the next season. She lured him to a hotel room and shot him point-blank in the chest. Miraculously, he survived, but was never the same player again. Sound familiar?
knightni
Did he come back in the 1950s as a hitter and lead the Giants to the pennant?
The Ginger Kid
QUOTE (knightni @ May 7, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Did he come back in the 1950s as a hitter and lead the Giants to the pennant? no, i believe he came back for the phils a few years later, then retired with baltimore. Just never was the same. Kind of drank himself to death in later years. Nickname in his early years was "the natural"
