I just don’t see how having one of the best players in all of baseball hurts a team. Especially, when our entire core is young and we’re playing in a mediocre division. This would be different if we were the Blue Jays or the Orioles, but we're in a position to compete year in and year out. You get a guy like A-Gone, you pay him, and you get what you pay for. Worst comes to worst you're paying a lot of money for three guys (Peavy, Rios, and A-Gone) and taking gambles on a few other spots on the team. With those three guys, you can afford to take some risks.

But even if that does happen...unless everyone else starts hitting, it's not going to be enough to offset the additional $25 mil a season it will take to sign him. You need to increase revenues by $25 million beyond where we've been the last 3-4 years.

Konerko's money comes off this year. We also aren't too far from the end of Jenks as well. Buehrle comes off of the books in another year.

Our entire young core is either playing terrible right now or is going to get very expensive in the next 2 years (D1).

It's not a mediocre division because it seems likely there will a powerhouse in the division for the next few years with the Twins.

We both agree that they won't continue to suck, Balta. You put good players around struggling young ones, you might get better results then with our current makeup.

Which is why we're going to need money to get another starting pitcher.

1. Buehrle isn't leaving. If Buehrle's leaving, then the team is going to have a huge hole to fill.

2. Konerko's contract is coming off, but we don't have an obvious 1b replacement next year.

3. Even if we keep Konerko, we're going to be searching the scrap heap for a DH again next year.

Andruw Jones has an OPS over 1, Paul Konerko leads the world in homers, and Rios is hitting great. They've had no effect on Beckham or Quentin's performance.

But you're forgetting 1 thing...you want to put Gonzalez into the lineup...you have to bench one of those struggling ones.

Remember this is with a hypothetical A-Gone scenario. So, we would have a 1b.

What's the significance of you calling him A-Gone? Is this supposed to imply something?

Gonzalez would replace PK at first. If you can dump Jenks for anything, most of Adrians salary is covered, even thought he isn't that expensive until 2012.
