Harry Chappas
QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) Well, he popped that one up! It's been so much fun watching him hit. He is fun to watch offensively and defensively

ThunderBolt
I just don’t see how having one of the best players in all of baseball hurts a team. Especially, when our entire core is young and we’re playing in a mediocre division. This would be different if we were the Blue Jays or the Orioles, but we're in a position to compete year in and year out. You get a guy like A-Gone, you pay him, and you get what you pay for. Worst comes to worst you're paying a lot of money for three guys (Peavy, Rios, and A-Gone) and taking gambles on a few other spots on the team. With those three guys, you can afford to take some risks.
ThunderBolt
QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) Ruiz has two hits tonight after entering the game with an .095 average. Don't tell Hawk that.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) But even if that does happen...unless everyone else starts hitting, it's not going to be enough to offset the additional $25 mil a season it will take to sign him. You need to increase revenues by $25 million beyond where we've been the last 3-4 years. Konerko's money comes off this year. We also aren't too far from the end of Jenks as well. Buehrle comes off of the books in another year.
Harry Chappas
QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) But people going to the game tonight didn't know this. it is not out of the ordinary common fans are not going to come out until it is guaranteed to be warm unless the team is red hot

Balta1701
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) I just don’t see how having one of the best players in all of baseball hurts a team. Especially, when our entire core is young and we’re playing in a mediocre division. Our entire young core is either playing terrible right now or is going to get very expensive in the next 2 years (D1).

We both agree that they won't continue to suck, Balta. You put good players around struggling young ones, you might get better results then with our current makeup. Buehrle comes off of the books in another year. 1. Buehrle isn't leaving. If Buehrle's leaving, then the team is going to have a huge hole to fill. 2. Konerko's contract is coming off, but we don't have an obvious 1b replacement next year. 3. Even if we keep Konerko, we're going to be searching the scrap heap for a DH again next year. You put good players around struggling young ones, you might get better results then with our current makeup. Andruw Jones has an OPS over 1, Paul Konerko leads the world in homers, and Rios is hitting great. They've had no effect on Beckham or Quentin's performance. ThunderBolt
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) 2. Konerko's contract is coming off, but we don't have an obvious 1b replacement next year.
