Yes.

Does anyone remember an incident before the coach was attacker that the fielders especially the outfielders would chase down fans themselves that managed to get on the field. One outfielder said something like they would wail on the intruders.

Balta makes the stretch at first and the umps call bull s***!

Tazed to gain information? Yeah torture. Tazed to stop the guy and get him off the field? No torture.

Sorry dude, I usually am standing next to you in opinion, but this time the stretch was just a little too far.

The only way that it could be construed as torture is if multiple rent-a-cops had lit him up all at one time; or, if they tased him while he was on the ground or in custody.

It's your use of the word 'child' that's very disturbing.

lol, but that's the funny part. :lolhitting:

I guess I do tend to have a twisted sense of humor. :-/

No, not at all. The point isn't pain, and really it isn't that painful. The point is causing the subject to be unable to resist because their muscles are temporarily freaked out.

not only is the electricity painful, when they detach the prongs it's just as painful if not more.

or if you light someone up when it's not necessary.

And after a few dozen uses, you wind up hitting the guy who doesn't know he has an enlarged heart and you kill a fan on the field.

Its uncomfortable, but frankly, its less painful than OC spray, or being strongarmed, or beaten with a baton.

If someone ran out on the field and was beaten with a baton, you would think of that as an appropriate response?

Nope. Not sure a taser was either, but taser is below blunt weapon force on the continuum for a reason. Tasers don't do permanent damage under 99.9% of circumstances, where as a baton will bruise or break things most of the time. You are kind of making my point for me that a taser isn't some awful torture technique when used to subdue someone.

How about just running a bunch of barbed wire along the walls surrounding the field.

You joke, but if people start doing this more often, one of the things that teams will consider is putting up higher fencing or netting all around the field.

And would the answer change if he was wearing a Cubs hat?

To be fair, it depends on how many volts are being used and how long they keep it on you. Depending on both of those things it's very comparable to OC Spray. I think what needs to happen is good old fashioned policing. RUN and catch the criminal, if he's resisting then you use whatever force is necessary. The kid that got tagged in Philly was outrunning an out of shape police, making him look like a clown. I think it was done more for the cops ego than actually having to use that kind of force. How do you prevent this in the future? Fire the police that are too out of shape to do their jobs.

The tasering in Philly sounds like the perfect story line for a future It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

haha. I could totally see Mac doing it on a dare. Someone could tell him that he would be famous and in the news for it, he would so do it.

In that case, the use of force is fully appropriate.

A good rule of thumb...think of the taser as a "Less lethal" weapon. If the offender is in a position where you'd consider shooting them even if you thought you didn't need to kill them, its use is appropriate.

You wouldn't shoot a person for running out onto the field. You'd consider it if they made a dart at a player or they physically went after someone else on the field.
