Soxbadger
Id bet a lot of money on the fact that FIFA would rather the US advance than Slovenia or Algeria. Look at the advertisements, look at the sponsors, they are American. US means big money in sports, even soccer. It was a bad call, but there is no way I believe that "the fix was in". The refs could have ended the US chances if they wanted to, but in the end the US came away with a draw and the chance to advance.

It isn't hard to pay off a ref to have them alter the outcome of a game. It happens fairly often in sports.
MexSoxFan#1
The USA got robbed, even Mexican commentators are saying the ref called Lord knows what...

Id say it happens very rarely in the grand scheme of things. But each of us have our opinion.

DBAHO
Well I think we definitely deserved a point out of that one, much better performance. Have to beat Serbia 3-0 to qualify apparently, and I can't see that happening. I could b**** about the referee considering we probably could have had a penalty early on but I won't do that. Think his performance besides that incident was pretty good throughout.

danman31
I gotta say I hate the rule of a handball on the goal line being an automatic red. Kewell didn't reach out with his arm, it hit his shoulder. The penalty is fair enough. Why ruin the game by sending a player off for that? It's how the rule is written, but I hate seeing red cards. They ruin games. danman31
Yeah what the f*** was that. Lippi picked one of the worst possible squads. The fact that there are several Juventus players when they had a brutal season is a sign of a terribly selected squad. That said, I think most of MLS could beat New Zealand (they have a freaking USSL player on the squad!).

They play their games at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. They play on infield dirt! haha, sad showing by Italy today.
whitesoxfan101
I'll add a great deal of insight to this thread by pointing out that Brazil is really good. I don't know how that team ever loses.
LittleHurt05
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) I'll add a great deal of insight to this thread by pointing out that Brazil is really good. I don't know how that team ever loses. If every round was best of 3 or 5, I think Brazil would win every World Cup. After watching them play, sometimes you watch two other teams, and it doesn't even seem like the same sport.
bmags
it also helps when they get away with handballs directly leading to goals.
danman31
I haven't been that impressed with Brazil, at least compared to some of their other teams. Argentina is probably better. They're beatable with their lack of care for defense.

Argentina is awfully good though right now... Just ask Kobe

I'm hoping to see an Argentina/Brazil game, that'd be great.
LittleHurt05
Wow, Portugal taking it hard to North Korea, up 7-0. I hope Kim Jong Il takes it easy on these guys when they get home, some of them might end up missing after this result.
