NBA Offseason Thread

Barnes was average against Lebron, Pietrus would usually do a better job, but he did a good job on Kobe whenever we played the Lakers.

The problem with Barnes for us was that he wasn't good enough of a 3 PT shooter, and for our offense we need 4 shooters who can hit the 3 when you play with Dwight.

But he'll bring some toughness and good movement off the ball on offense also.

The Bulls also have interest in T-Mac, Josh Howard and Rasual Butler. They're not going to be content going into the season without another shooter.

It would be interesting to bet on a superstar rebounding. If it works, it would be huge.

It's amazing that McGrady and Howard are only a year apart in terms of age. It seems like T-Mac has been around forever. If one of them can come in and provide some solid shooting and not be a distraction to the team I would be all for it.

Other names out there.

KC:

"The Bulls now have nine players under contract and roughly $7.8 million of cap space left. They remain in discussions with Brad Miller and Kurt Thomas for big-man depth and have had talks about Rafer Alston and Jason Williams as a backup point guard."

John Jackson:

NBA sources said the Bulls have had discussions with representatives for Josh Howard, Shannon Brown, Rasual Butler and even Tracy McGrady...Once they've shifted their attention from guards, they probably will try to re-sign a couple of their own free agents, specifically backup center Brad Miller.

I just can't see McGrady or Howard staying healthy long enough to give you more than 35-40 games.

Off the bench though, that's a reasonable gamble. The question I'd have is...if that's all they give you, are they effective in those minutes or not?

It's a huge gamble though, especially with Deng being so fragile and Rose always an injury risk due to the way he plays.

First of all, can you name a "Sure thing" left on the market?

Secondly, with a team like the Heat out there, the only way you've got a chance is to take and win some major gambles.

Third, if you gamble on signing one of them and they play 30 games and Deng and Rose both get hurt, what have you lost? If Deng and Rose get hurt, the Bulls will miss the playoffs anyway.

Give me Howard over McGrady then, as McGrady's back is just shot. And yes, there's no sure things left unfortunately besides Luke Schenscher for back-up center.

I wouldn't be mad with Howard, if Thibs thought he could work with him.

The Bulls shouldn't give out anything more than 1 year deals to these guys regardless, to preserve their cap space for next season (unless they choose to give out long - term deals to Rose and Noah).

If the Bulls added Shaq they would be a REALLY big, stout and tall team. Teams will not be overmatching us by beating up on our guys. The Bulls are already a big team but Shaq will really give us a wall out there to hurt feelings and bones.

Shaq is a terrible fit for the Bulls roster and should be a terrible fit for Thibs's system unless he changes things hugely.
